i doubt i would have enjoyed doing race leagues and stuff when i was younger for all the same reasons i fell in love with freeskiing, but i have nothing but respect for the hard core racers and know their skills are unreal. and if i had money i would pick up a pair of GS skis to rip on groomers in a heartbeat cause i can definitely appreciate a good mach 5 turn
Racing definitely taught me how to ski and sometimes I miss hitting gates. It was a pretty decent stress reliever but, I wouldn't want to go back to competing or being forced to train in negative temperatures.
The last few years I've signed up for a beer league team with my brother and dad during my winter breaks, and it has reminded me how cool it feels to let it fly on GS skis. I don't necessarily miss the coaches and the suits, but being able to carve like that brings so much more energy to the sport.
