Every season ski patrol gets a lot of crap. Some of it is deserved, but a lot of it isn't. Yeah they can be annoying when they are yelling at you for going too fast in a slow zone taking your pass because you went down a closed trail to get some fresh snow. I'm sure everyone on NS (and me too), at some point or another, has gotten pissed off at a member of ski patrol or cursed them out under your breath, but think about what it would be like without them there. You over shoot a jump and get a concussion and no one is there to get you down the mountain. No one is out there at 5AM doing avalanche control or checking to see if there is enough snow cover to open up some runs.

I recently saw this video that came out on Saturday where ski patrol at Killington saved a kid that was dangling from the lift. I mean the dude got himself up into the chair and pulled that kid to safety. I don't think they get enough appreciation for all of the hard work that they do to keep up safe because there are so many less injuries and deaths because they are around. Even last year when I was out in Telluride when some guy was reported missing on the hike-to Bald Mountain, they rushed up there with their puppies and a helicopter to do everything they could to find him. So thank you, ski patrol, for everything that you do to allow us to have as much fun possible while out on your mountains.

TL;DR: Next time you get pissed off at or see ski patrol, go up to them and say thank you. They may get on our nerves every once in a while, but I would hate to see what a resort would be like without them.

This last Sunday a buddy and I jumped under the rope getting to some fresh lines and ski patrol guy caught us. He sounded really pissed at first then shouted "cool" as like he was giving us the privilege to ski the most fun powder so far this year...

ski patrol is awesome. they dont deserve the shit they get 99% of the time. they should get way more respect than they do.

mountain watch is a completely different story, though. Theyre basically the rent-a-cops of the skiing world. theyre the ones that will pull your pass for stupid shit like leaving the bar up on the lift. they blow.

yeah, or at least in western new york. They dont handle any injuries or anything ski patrol does, they just yell at people for dumb stuff like not putting the bar down, going too fast, etc. They suck, theyre usually just gapers that volunteer for a seasons pass and a yellow jacket.

Ski Patrol never tells me to go slow in the slow zones because I go too fast for them to catch up to talk to me.

I was in a closed area that wasn't marked as closed and some idiots that worked there blamed me, saying I should have known it was closed, despite no ropes or signs or anything. It wasn't patrollers though. I think it was mountain hosts.

This. The people mentioned in my last post were the yellow jackets at Keystone. I don't like Vail, I just skied there because I got to for free. I've never had the slightest of issues with patrollers anywhere.

at whistler as far as i am sure patrol and speed control are completely different and patrollers do not do speed control. its the speed control that pisses me off. i am very thankful for everithing ski patrol does though

I knocked myself out for 8 minutes last year full blown concussion. My friend stood there watching my as my eyes rolled into the back of my head, he called for some one to get help. 20 minutes went by and I got up and skied myself down to medics I have no memory of this and don't think it was the right discion but hey it got me where I needed to be. 20 mins was waaaaay to long the mountain is so small I could throw a rock from one side to the other. They got me the help I needed and I am thankful for that, but what if......

I agree, but young people (including myself at one time) are angry about any form of people in charge. They don't look at ski patrol as being helpful and saving lives. They just look at it as somebody else trying to ruin their fun. It wasn't until I matured that I realized all of the good they do and are thankful for them!

For sure, I think a lot of us used to be that way, but I guess I'd say that those young people with their not yet fully developed brains complaining about ski patrol are essentially morons :)

YEAH. I mean, I fucking got my pass pulled at Holiday Valley for not putting the bar down on opening day. I was like wait really, thats a thing? Not saying I wasn't a bitch but really? It was so dumb.

i take that back, the muslims wear blankets everyday, does that mean they ski in blankets?

you actually got your pass pulled? that fucking sucks, the worst ive gotten was a rant about how i should always put the bar down, and that if i was caught again i would get my pass pulled. ive said it before and ill say it again; ski patrol is awesome. fuck mountain watch though.

I understand that they are doing their job. I respect that 100 percent. It's just stupid that they pull your pass for that. If they would have given me a warning, yeah I would have deserved it. Nope they just came out of no where and started bitching.

Bristol's ski patrol is cool. My family is on ski patrol there. They obviously can't just let you do whatever you want but they're pretty laid back there about most stuff.

The yellow jackets fucking suck. They try to act tough and blow their whistles at you for everything. I had to take a safety class to get my pass back after they took it for skiing backwards and going to fast at Keystone. Early season is the worst to, they stand every 200 yards
