Email notifications and A mobile app

Hey NS, lately I've been using NS on my phone more than on my computer because it's convenient to get to an what not. But we all have those times that we're expecting a message or something and when it comes You never know til you check back again, and you might miss the person being online and then a deal potentially falls through and all that good stuff.

SO I want to propose that maybe there be an account setting that would allow you to get email notifications when you get a new message and even when someone replies to a thread you are way into or something of the sort, similar to other forum sites.

I was also thinking maybe for further in the future an NS mobile app that would send push notifications when you get a message and all that good stuff. That way you'll always be up to date and you won't ever miss a deal again!! :D

I find nothing wrong with the mobile site, I dont understand why everyone is so hung up on having an "app". We have been adding more new features to the mobile site and more will be added in the future.


Im sure email notifications would be an easy thing to add, but do you really not go on ns enough to see your messages? Not trying to sound like a dick but I think most people check ns frequently enough to see a new message.

What platform are you on?

I know that on iOS its really hurting. Android supports mobile sites way better than iOS does. Not really sure why but this seems to often be the case.

thats what I was referring to. I guess I should've clarified. I got the iphone 6 recently and its a little nicer because of the bigger screen but its still rough.


and no I do not check my NS every second of every day. Like most with facebook. I do try to check it at least once a day but sometimes I cant and sometimes I miss a deal because I miss someones message. thats the main thing that gets me

Yeah I honestly can't pick out exactly what the issue is because even using Chrome on iOS just isn't the same as an app. Maybe its the super easy app ecosystem that just gets you really used to that, or the way that so many companies have developed apps.

I absolutely recognize the need for a Newschoolers app, its just a very large undertaking.

I have a samsung phone, but I can tell you that before this year, when i had an iphone, the mobile site sucked. IDK what it was, but it was just harder to use. On my new phone, the screen is huge and the site works really well.



An app would be nice, but not really worth the effort imo, although it would allow for push notifications.

This actually wouldn't be too hard to add... currently the only challenge is that you can't customize notifications... so they're either on or off globally.

We could switch PM notifications on immediately, but you couldn't choose whether you get forum/comment or PMs... it'd either be on or off.

If we make an interface to manage notifications it will take us longer to enable this feature.

What do you guys think?

So are you saying it'd be one or the other? Or just add one to the other and vis versa?

If it's one or the other, I personally would prefer inbox notifications.

The ideal situation would be, like you said, to have a feature that allows you to customize your notifications.

If you all were to push towards an interface allowing that feature, that's be great, but could understand the time delay if so.

Appreciate the input and any effort put towards this

So you could add pm alerts immediately along with everything else, but make it so everything would be either on/off, correct?

I I agree the customizable notifications would prime but of course time would be understandable.

make it so pm alerts are added to everything temporarily until the other interface is ready maybe?

Yeah if enough people in this thread say "Yes add it" then we can flip on inbox notifications, but you can only turn of notifications globally - not customize what you get.

We'd add the customization interface later.

Sounds good. I like the idea :D haha. Hopefully everyone else does too!
