So this season I am planning to make an edit or two. Last year I didn't make an edit because only my friend has a gopro and he hasn't given me any footage from his gopro. I always ask but he says he lost it. Anyways I got a gopro Hero 3+ at the end of the season. I was thinking since Christmas is coming up soon I might want a camera or the gopro hero 4+. I just wanted to know if it would be to get a gopro or an actual camera that would also be good for taking some pictures and videos of me skiing. Price range would be from 0-500 dollars but exceptions could be made considering what would be a good camera for the job. I also have a scorpion mount which I would be able to use for this camera. Any help is appreciated!
If you get something like a dslr the results will only show if you are a filmer and know how o use the tools, if you just want to get decent footage with not much effort a gopro will do the job fine
I was in your position a couple years ago. I ended up getting a T3i and sold my Gopro. I don't really see why you would need a Hero 4 considering that you have a Hero 3. I would say keep or sell your Gopro and pick up a cheap SLR like a T2i or T3i. I got mine real cheap from the Canon refurbished online store. I kind of miss the fun of my gopro, but I really like the picture and video quality of the T3i.
