I go to FSU and I had friends in the library. There are people who have the audacity to say that they are going to pray for this deranged fuck after he compromised our safety. This pisses me off. Myron May (the shooter) was a huge fucking coward and probably schizophrenic (he posted on his facebook that he was controlled by the government or some shit). I hate that asshole. Also people are turning this into a fucking race issue because he was black. He was too chicken shit to kill himself so he had to try to take people with him. Thankfully no one died so he failed. Unfortunately people saying they'll, "pray for him" are just perpetuating an idea to these dicks that they can kill people and get sympathy/be recognized.

If I had a solution I would've proposed it and won my Nobel Peace Prize by now.
Within that lies the reason why outlawing firearms is absurd. Cocaine is illegal and I'm sure you can go out and score it; putting child proof lids on pill bottles is supposed to keep prescription drugs out of the hands of children; setting a BAC limit for driving should've stopped drunk driving accidents - the list goes on and on. We can't be caught in this fallacy that outlawing firearms is going to stop, or curb crime.
I would venture to say 90% of gun owners have no intent to harm others, regardless of what weapon they own, whether that be a 9 millimeter pistol, or an AR-15. Outlawing firearms won't do much, they're already in circulation anyways and you're going to get it regardless of law. Someone who is motivated to kill others doesn't give two fucks about laws, they're breaking a big one in the first place. I'd say we need a system to monitor mental health of gun buyers but that won't do much, many of these individuals go through the black market to purchase their weapons. And we most definitely don't have enough allocated funds to comb through all of the black market and destroy the arms trade, and by all means the last fiscal move our government needs to make is that.
Maybe what we need is a system built on education and safety and maybe we need to do a better job with the wellbeing of the mentally ill. I'm not saying give them hugs and integrate them into society because that's just absurd and people wouldn't follow that trend. But we need to create outlets, whatever they may be. We also need to quit talking about these shooters and giving them sympathy and attention on a national scale after they commit this heinous, cowardly acts, to a socially retard these outlets are powerful.
On a side note, I wanted to point out that the local law enforcement handled the situation incredibly fast and kept the library as safe as possible under such chaotic circumstances. Knowing the layout of Strozier library the shooter was about 25 yards from creating a tragic massacre.

Good point. But I'm worried that as long as it's still legal to buy metal, people are going to continue to make their own guns. We should ban metal as well.

The war on drugs is systematic oppression of minorities by the government, specifically republicans. This is in no way connected to the war on drugs so im not sure why you brought it up. This is about the need to make guns, most importantly handguns illegal to protect the citizens of the united states. Actually really easy, and a lot of people are doing it now since ammo is getting so expensive
I might have to try that, however with my luck the thing will get jammed in the barrel and blow my gun to pieces.
I still don't think though that the gun death rate would remain high if people had to start packing their own shells. You may have a cartridge left when it is all set and done but you are still lacking a bullet and powder which would be tough to come by given the high demand it would create for such products.

Reducing gun ownership through legislation would undoubtably reduce the number of these 'no-sense' mass shootings and attempted shootings. It may even reduce the murder rate, the data is pretty clear however, that violent crime will rise.

There's a huge difference between running up to people and stabbing them knife and being able to walk into a room an open fire in every direction. how many second degree murders are committed using guns? Now for all those situations, how many of them would still result in murder if guns were taken out of the equation? the answer is a lot less thanks to, like you say, guns making it easier to kill people.

If he was actually schizophrenic, that seems like all the more reason to be sympathetic. If he shot people because he was hallucinating or delusional from untreated psychiatric illness, that's drastically different than just being a coward. Mental illness and character flaws are not the same thing... and this sounds more like frank psychosis than the usually angsty, socially isolated teenage shooter 'reaching out for help.'

i highly disagree, more kids have defiantly been stabbed at school then shot. i know for sure there was 5 at my country ass school ( not getto at all) and i was one of the stabbers (it was a pencil). and I'm completely normal...
