We had a super awesome time at R2R this year! Stoked to meet some NS'ers and thanks Doug for everything! The boys killed it! The level of skiing was insane this year!!

It's beginning to feel like the contest has been high jacked these past couple years and isn't about the east coast anymore. Not to say that it isn't sick that guys like LJ compete, they definitely up the publicity and level of riding, It just doesn't seem like the same opportunity that it was years ago.


I'm torn on this one too. On the one hand, I have friends who I would have loved to see compete and I definitely think they deserved a spot, especially as local EC up and comers. On the other as you mentioned, not only do popular names bring more media attention, for the local younger guys who do get an opportunity skiing with such legitimate people must be incredible as well as inspirational. I'd say my only issue at this point is with the lottery. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's supposed to be entirely random. If this is the case, my numerous friends who try to get in year in and year out, but rarely do must either be incredibly unlucky, anomalies, or the system isn't random especially since I'm sure any biggish name would have no problem getting in. I think outside of maybe like last years finalists the selection process should be entirely random. With a steep entrance fee I don't think anyone who doesn't think they stand at least a slight chance would enter, maintaining the quality of the field. Someone with more knowledge of the lottery system should definitely weigh in on this because I could be spitting utter bullshit, but if it really claims to be "random" and isn't that's pretty fucked up imo.

I have to disagree with this. There are plenty of lower level events around the east coast that bigger names don't go and do and up and comers can shine in. Rails 2 Riches has been able to stick around and remain basically the only major paying event on the east coast. I say keep the heavies coming back every year by inviting them, give the younger hungry generation a glimpse of what they will need to do to be on those guys level. It's one thing to watch people like Khai and LJ in edits but to physically ski next to them and watch how incredibly good they are is inspiring. Every skier that competes in R2R should look up to LJ. He started doing that contest as basically a no name east coast kid close to a decade ago. But he worked hard and now has more wins and podiums at the event than anyone else.

Maybe some sort of an open qualifier the day before the event could be a cool opportunity for up and comers, instead of a lottery. Like the top 8 or the top 5 gets a spot for R2R the next day, like they do at War of Rails.

yah, it used to be base lodge for a Nordic ski center, and it was remodeled to be a house about 5 years ago, im glad u guys had fun, aside from some douche puking on the couch, I had a blast

that's rough, one of the girls that podium'd for snowboardeing puked on my buddy and also puked in a solo cup with no splatter or overspray I was impressed haha

Dude fuck YEAH! That was literally the perfect afterparty for a ski event. I feel like my whole life I've been waiting for someone to have a party just like that at an event.

Anyway, killed it - had a BLAST. Can't wait for next year!

Thanks man Idk if u remember meeting and shooting the shit for awhile but it was nice to meet the man behind NS and also im stoked u guys all enjoyed it
