perhaps. i believe we could do something that could speed up time or slow time down, but not go back in time or anything. i read a book called a wrinkle in time that said the edge of the universe time is not a constant. so maybe. but what do i know?
---------------------
If you built a spaceship that could go close to the speed of light, you could use it as a time machine (like in the first planet of the apes). But you wouldn't be able to got back into time.
If you don't understand why, go ask your physics teacher, because it would take way too long to explain the theory of general relativety in this thread... well i guess it could be done, but I'm too lazy.
If you travel away from earth for at a speed of 99.9999999996 percent of lightspeed for one day. Then turn around and travel back to earth still at full throttle. When you arrive at earth you would be 1000 years in the furture even though you have been traveling for only 2 days. (For all you retards the faster you travel the slower time passes by for you but everyone/thing that is moving at a different speed is passing through time at a different pace or normal time.) This theory relies on special relativity. There are other theories such as the worm hole but I dont know how to explain it in Simplistic terms.
SMILE, its the second best thing you can do with ur mouth
Yep, you can go into the future if u go the speed of light, but u cant go back to the present. Actually u just age less than everyone else so time slows down for you, while it stays the same for everyone else.

The theory of relativity and time slowing down as velocity increases can actually be proven on a very small scale. Satellites travelling at 30,000 miles per hour around the earth actually need slightly faster clocks because time slows down very slightly for them. Astronauts actually come back a few seconds younger than everyone else.
it was somehow oproven in quantum phsyics that its impossible to go back in time, but you can go forward in time, bc they have been able to make atoms go in and out of existance into a future time period, liek 30 seconds..
'Theres no gravity in space. So the penny would not weigh anything even travelling at those speeds.'
But technically gravity and acceleration are equivalent!
Although I guess if he was already traveling at that speed, it wouldn't weigh anything... he wouldn't be able to tell whether he was going .000009c or 99.999999c.
and no, no time machines, won't happen.

First off: OF COURSE THERE'S GRAVITY IN SPACE!!
WHAT THE HELL MAKES PLANETS IN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM ORBIT THE SUN?! Why you feel 'zero gravity' is because in space one falls at the same rate as crap around you (say the Earth) and thus you don't approach it.
2nd) In general, Quantum mechanics deals with the small, while relativity deals with the big. The discontinuities between the two are what currently poses problems to scientists. In the sense of time travel, with such high velocities and such, one should use relativity. And it has been theoretically proven that time travel is possible using relativity. However, this relies on rediculously fast speeds, and large masses etc. In the next 100 years? No.
We could in theory (if we could manipulate wormholes) construct a time machine right now that would allow people in the future to travel back in time to when the machine was made (by applying relativistic accelerations to one mouth while the other remains stationary). But we couldn't build one to take us back to before the machine was built.

Everyone who is interested on the theory of time travel/wormholes. Read Stephen Hawkings 'A Brief History of Time'. It's insane what this guy thinks up. Scary stuff

but squeaky then you kinda run into the questions of 'creating wormholes' and ripping time-space, which is a lot different then simply stretching it.
Besides Waking, I would also recommend Brian Greene's THE ELEGANT UNIVERSE, it is more recent, written well, and I am pretty sure they even made a NOVA on it.
this is all pointless. i happen to have seen a person use a time machine already. his name was napoleon dynamite.
