Video color correction software

Hi guys,

so i have been filming with my dslr and have been wanting a software that will give me good color correction for my clips.

I would prefer it to be free but am willing to spend a little money

I heard CineStyle was pretty good but when i try to download it, my macbook shows "Safari can't open the file "technicolor_cinestyle_v1.0.pf2" because no available application can open it"

So i don't know what to do there, anyone know how to get that fixed?

Also any recondmendations to new programs would be great

You need the EOS camera utility on you computer to install Cinestyle to your camera which is found on a CD that comes with your camera or you can download off the t2i page on the canon website. Cinestyle doesn't actually colour correct the footage it just creates a flat profile for the image/video which helps with colour correcting afterwards. A good program for colour correcting which you can get for free is DaVinci Resolve Lite off the Black Magic Website.

DaVinci Resolve Lite.

It's free and a lot of professionals use the full version of resolve for color correction, grading and finishing.
It can be tricky to learn quickly if you haven't color graded before but I'm sure there are online tutorials out there.

PS: You can't push DSLR footage too much in color grading though because it breaks up and looks noisy pretty quickly, due to the fact that most DSLR cameras shoot 4:2:0 color sampling and in highly compressed recording codecs. You can get away with color correction and very simple grading but I don't suggests highly stylized grades.

I recommend this also but you got to know what your doing. I wouldst recommend this to your novice cinematographer. I am talking about the CC on DRL.

reslove lite and adobe speed grade are good, the layouts of the programs need at least a 17" monitor (thats what it is for resolve lite). The applications need a lot of screen-space though. I'm using a 15" display and it is a little frustrating having to scroll back and forth and adjust windows.
