Well you have to disprove the fact that it wasn't a good idea despite raising millions of dollars for the cause. Maybe talk about how people get blindly caught up in things for the sake of popularity and lose sight of the actual cause, or how ALS kills like nobody and the some of the money probably could've been used towards something that will save many more lives. Form an argument that can't be shut down by somebody simply saying "yeah but it raised a lot of money for a good cause," otherwise your essay is useless

You should talk about how while the ASL foundation was making millions and lining the pockets of those involved due to a stupid fad, many other research efforts such as those in childhood AML CML ALL and CLL leukemia were and still are hurting for funding which is resulting in slowed progression in research and treatment development and therefore more deaths. While I do feel the ALS challenge was for a good cause; It should have been directed toward a broader spectrum of medical research. I can guarantee you, there are a few new cars sitting outside the ALS association in DC.

If you want to sound smart you could write about the hundredth monkey effect, which I personally think is super interesting whether or not I think its totally true.

Basically the hundredth monkey effect is when some sort of behavior or knowledge instantaneously expands from only a small population, to much larger populations once a certain threshold is reached.

Legend has it that scientists taught one wild monkey to open a coconut a certain more efficient way. That monkey taught a few other monkeys, those monkeys taught a few other monkeys, and the knowledge of the coconut spread slowly amongst a small population. Then suddenly BAM! all of the fucking monkeys everywhere in the region were using the technique! Basically once a certain number of monkeys knew how to open the coconuts hence the name the 100th monkey effect, the knowledge was instantaneously passed on to the rest of the population.

You could write about how social media enhances the sharing of information and that the ice bucket challenge somehow reached the threshold of the 100th monkey effect. and that people are monkeys

OP, you've chosen an opinion on the issue but it's not exactly a defensible one. Sure, the videos were annoying but that can't be your essay when overall it was a successful marketing tactic that made a lot of money for a good cause. Most of the other ideas posted so far suck (no offense all) - it's because as proposed, your topic sucks.

I would choose a different topic or change your point of view. Perhaps, use this as an example of how people jump on bandwagons. This was previously mentioned, but now the ALS thing would be one of many supporting arguments. Other examples could be KONY2012 and the voting tendencies of the uninformed. Your thesis would be that bandwagonning is an often-used strategy that has (x) bad effect on (y).

Here's an idea, turn off NS and right the damn paper.

I will give you one tip though. BS and BS. Just shovel that shit in there but make it sound profound. Also if it's a an essay that needs to be a certain length use 12.2 font instead of 12 and go back through and add words to make larger words drop down to the next line and all that shit. You can snag quite a bit of length that way.

Seriously though, this is for what high school? IT's just a fucking paper. Turn off ns, and just do it. Not THAT hard. This paper isn't going to follow you around for the rest of your life(unless you write something super fucked and then run for congress).

Write a persuasive speech about buying a llama if you have to read it aloud. If not write about anything else. Your topic sucks.

We would need to know the topic of your 3rd paragraph unless you're planning on changing the first half too. What is your topic sentence for the first two pp?
