Maybe not but that is quite a bit of snow this early. Saying places out there could get up to 6 feet by thursday. Buffalo get's some gnarly storms every few years but this is pretty heavy for november. I wonder if any western NY mountains are opening up early.

Now if the next storm would drop some mountains over there :)

It is when the temp hovers around the low thirties. It has stayed below 32 and the snow stayed pretty powdery. I've never been out west to compare though. I am leaving snow ridge now and I'm happy I made the trip. Most powder I've ever skied. The whole day was great and the first few runs were straight POW!

It's 7 feet of snow in fucking november. Not sure if sour grapes or just stupidly hard to please. If somebody handed you $10,000 would you complain that it's in 50's instead of 100's and refuse to take it?

Because Buffalo NEVER EVER has insane lake effect blizzards that shut it down or anything. I'm pretty sure this is the first snowstorm they've ever gotten actually.

Right, getting 7ft. of snow in a 24 hour period is COMPLETELY NORMAL for areas with lake effect snow, which is why you hear all NYers saying this is another normal storm and there's absolutely zero national coverage on what's going on... oh wait.

My house in Orchard Park has about 6 feet of snow. This is a picture of the house across the street. (Technically a 2 story house). There's 11 foot drifts in some areas as well.


I went up to Holiday Valley yesterday and it was incredible. There was 3 feet of untouched pow on one of the closed runs. It was absolutely incredible. That's definitely the deepest pow I've ever ridden. It was awesome! It's not really out of the ordinary for this to happen. The storm in 2001 brought 5/6 feet of snow. The October Storm in 2006 brought I think 4ft. As well as yearly lake effect storms.

Our average snowfall is 165in a year. Hamburg got 90 inches. So they got more than half the average snowfall in a week. It's pretty crazy!

There actually weren't too many people there. The main roads to get there were closed. A drive that is usually an hour, was 2 and a half so most of the people there were people who live pretty close. It was a pretty chill day there!

And yet you think these are comparable to this storm where some parts recorded 84"+ in 24 hours... and you're calling me an idiot? That makes complete sense.

Um no. The one in 2001 had 89 inches over the course of the storm. Which is comparable to what we've gotten.

The October storm is comparable because of the time. People think november is early for snow but we've had storms much, much earlier. The October storm was also really destructive.

The climate is always changing. I'm aware of that. I'm basing my knowledge on primary sources. It's not just the buffalo area. It's a lot of areas surrounding the Great Lakes.

i wonder who is right here? A few people from NY who have witnessed this weather first hand and know tons more who have stories or the people who don't even live in the northeast?

Just wiki lake lake effect snow and look up the Great Lakes for starters

I live in the city itself and we got snow up to our knees. It's the suburbs south of Buffalo that really got hit. A good amount of snow in the city has melted too after it rained yesterday, so urban pow missions are a no go.

everything dies eventually. The world over hundreds of years goes in and out of ice ages and warming spells. There is documented accounts of years crops failed and centuries when a huge amount of North America was under a glacier. The Buffalo area lake effect snow is not proof of climate change. My sister went to SUNY Oswego and tells a story about when they got the same amount of snow a few years back. You probably have no idea where Oswego is because you're talking out of your ass.

My friend lives about a mile off the lake and she had like 11 foot drifts up against her house. Hamburg got slammedddd.

Yeah we had the same problem! We wanted to do some urban but digging it out was a lot shittier than building a lip & landing. So we just built a jump in the kids backyard(OP/Colden)
