Smith Lenses Vs. Oakley Lenses

So i've been using Oakley splices for the past four seasons and am getting new goggles this year. Most likely I'm going to get the Smith Io/x, love the look and they fit my face great. I had two lenses for my splices which were fire iridium and hi intensity yellow. For the day lens the red or green sol-x mirror seemed pretty similar when I tried them on in the shop. For the night lens however, will either the red sensor mirror or blue sensor mirror stack up to the Hi yellow at night?

I have the smith i/ox with red sol-x lenses. They have great peripheral view and eliminate glare. They do seem dark at night but they come with a replacement lens that seems to work better. Hit them on a locker when I was picking up a glove... big, annoying scratch.

ya i accedentally dropped one of my smith io lenses and got a ton of scratches. it seems to me like they can scratch easily if your not careful

Get Smith and get the photochromic lense....its the only lense you'll ever need...except for SUPER sunny days. I've skied it at night and some broken clouds/sunny days and it performs. Twice as much as their other lenses, but its the tits!

Smith > Oakley. All day.


Deal with either warranty dept once and you'll see what I mean. Oakley could not give any less of a fuck while Smith is just about as helpful as I've ever seen.

Everyone I know who has used Smith has wanted to switch to Oakley shortly following. Optically, Oakley outshines Smith by a big margin. Smith lenses aren't bad, but they have nothing to compare with Prism, or even regular Iridium lenses.

I've done loads of night skiing with the original IO Sensor lens and it's almost always been completely sweet. Better than the yellow lens in my previous goggles, but not as good as a clear.

I am one of the many that likes the blue over the red, but for night skiing clear is the best imo

You're somewhat wrong on those claims. Smith is optically correct in all of there lenses even on the lower end models that are not spherical. Also smith is the only goggle company that incorporates anti fog into the lens. As opposed to oakley and everybody else spraying an anti fog film onto the inner lens. Have you ever wiped the inside of both of these lenses, if you have you would chose smith any day of the week. Even oakley reps will tell you to never touch the inside of the goggle. Prism is fairy cool though, I'll admit.
