Painting Helmets?

i don't know what i was thinking when i bought this colour but i like the shape of my helmet and was wondering if it would be a good idea to paint it?

Ive heard painting your helmet actually degrades the plastic, not sure if this is fact, or urban myth.

Personally I would recommend Plasti Dip, A friend of mine did his helmet and it seemed pretty legit, and if its not what you want you can always just peel it off and re spray.

on a side note ive seen people spray paint their helmets and it always chips, and never looks as good as one may expect. Hopefully this is helpful.

Well plasti dip can rip off pretty easily as well. But if it looks bad you can always just peel it off like ^^he was saying. Just don't rush it. Do like 3 or 4 super light sprays within a couple hours and then go heavy on it.

if u paint well do it, i think it would be good. IMO it wouldnt do something bad to your helmet

i painted mine just with like spraypaint or an airbrush. (i actually used an air brush but a spray paint can will work fine) but i painted it from olive drab green to black and it turned out just fine

Unless you have high quality paint it will just crack and mess up the plastic

not neccesarily, took mine to an actual car shop and they painted it for me...ive had no cracks or mess ups...

Plasti dip ftw

Even if spray paint does deterierate the plastic of your hemet. thats not the part of the helmet that protects your brain.

my two cents:

In the motorcycle community, people paint and draw on their helmets all the time and no one's concerned about structural integrity. Those helmets stand up to much greater tests than our ski helmets.

Secondly, ski helmets protect you with the Styrofoam shell, not the hard plastic case. It creates a bumper zone for your head and gives more space for your head to accelerate in. I doubt painting the shell has any measurable impact on safety.

Last ski helmets are rated up to 13mph in the United States. They're not exactly high tech devices

Even ski race helmets? doesn't sound right to me those dudes are going 70+ on shear ice

I was wrong they're rated at 14 mph. You can find that statistic here:
