Skier of the Year Voting

Skier of the Year voting is open now. Really cool to see so many urban skiers getting recognition as nominees. So hyped to see LSM up on there, he really deserves it between his unreal segment in Less and his perfect contribution to Finess that was released for free. So of course he got my first vote.

The way I think about voting is that I'm giving money to people that I think deserve it or can do the most with it. Not sure what sort of leverage SOTY has with sponsors but I imagine the winner can use it to squeeze a little more travel budget from someone, or maybe pick up some new sponsor they didn't have.

Comp skiers are great and all, but any of the olympic medalists probably got a decent chunk of cash for that and can live with out this title. People with energy drink sponsors, especially red bull, will get by this winter without winning this. BC skiers aren't what I relate to right now so i didn't vote for them, exception being that Parker and C-Lo are deserving for what they gave us this winter with "The Big Picture"

So another thing that earns my vote are people that are giving us content that is amazing. Thats the biggest factor for me.

I'm really pulling for b dog here, and I think he has a strong chance after keynote skier, although I do think it'll tale more than 1 sick movie to win this

One question... Why? Why would you vote LSM or Clayton as skiers of the year? What have they done aside from a couple gnarly features? Skier of the year is a big award (lol) and goes beyond just doing a cool trick on an urban feature... or are you voting for them simply because they're known as urban skiers?

Maybe you missed the part of my post (aka my whole post) where I talked about why I voted the way I did. I'll elaborate.

I voted for LSM because he is an up and comer and probably doesnt have as much monetary support from his sponsors as other people. I see this award as an potential leverage for him in the future. He had an amazing full part with Level 1. He helped release a completely free movie with The Bunch that many are considering not only the best movie of the year but also game changing. He is considered an urban skier though he does have other shots in both of his part, but I do relate more to his brand of skiing than guys like townsend or mcnutt. LSM also keeps it real. He was out at IF3 talking and hanging out with anyone and everyone. Meeting him was awesome. He puts out some edits to keep people stoked during the year. These are more reasons why I voted for him to be SOTY. More than any of the other nominees, LSM gets me the most stoked on skiing and I think he deserves recognition for it.

Cody Townsend had an insane part in DOMY. Every shot of his was a complete banger, and just went balls to the wall. That couloir was stupidly huge, and he is as deserved as any for this award.

Jesper Tjäder broke the internet with some crazy shit. He showed he had a crazy pair of balls, and was maybe the most entertaining skier to watch last year.

Sammy Carlson's X games real ski BC edit was possibly the best two minutes of skiing I have seen in my life. The shots he got with TGR for his upcoming movie look insane as well, my guess is he will take this prize no problem next year.

Dane Tudor had a huge comeback after last seasons recovery and got some great shots with TGR as well. His X games seggy was also sick and I think a BC triple deserves to be recognized.

I decided to go for Pwhite over Logan in my last pick just because I thought his style this year in the Big Picture was off the chain. Often when athletes break off to do their own thing it backfires, but this was far from the case.

My list was very similar to Tall T's, LSM by far was my first pick for all the reasons already listed. Following that, I picked Vila for his unique contribution in Five, ABM, Phil for finally putting out a really strong urban part and lastly Karl for going big. Hope to see those five make the finals, preferably over all the backcountry dudes who shouldn't be viewed as skiers of the year.

LSM had my top vote as well. the dude straight up has been killing it, especially splitting shots with 2 movies. his aggressive and creative style is fun to watch

So you voted for him because he hung out with people at IF3, had a segment in two good ski movies and because he's poor. I can see why he stands out to you beyond any other skier. I voted for Sammy because he banged me out but used a rubber. He's a super nice guy and he won the gold at the Olympics Real Snow event.

Obviously, everyone on the list absolutely kills it, but what really sets someone apart for me here is what they have done specifically this season that will change the course of skiing for the future.

In that regard, I'd have to give it to Clayton for bringing about a new age of ski film making as well as his all-time urban, Joss for bringing freeskiing in to a new age competition-wise with the Olympics, Nick Mcnutt for crushing [pow and bringing together park and backcountry skiing in a new way, LSM for establishing a new style and level of skill as a mainstay in film, and, finally, BDog gets my #1 vote for truly innovating and doing things that no one else is doing, has done, or has even thought of at an insane level. Jesper gets an extremely honorable mention for upping the ante in the tech game on film, in comps, in the park, on jumps, and in the streets.

Should be interesting to see who takes the crown, but I'll be pulling for BDog #wun!
