Buying a pack

I'm looking to buy a pack for this upcoming season. My crew and I are planning to do more backcountry exploration at our mountain. I have no experience when it comes to buying slope packs so any advice can help.

What in your opinion are the best types of packs for east coast?

You want something small, that doesn't get in the way, that holds your skis easily and you can throw shovel/probe/beacon plus maybe your shell if you get hot while you're hiking. Don't overthink it, its just something to strap your skis to while you go for a hike

Its kinda counter intuitive, but You're gonna wanna be able to slings your skis diagonal.

How? I have been using A frame for years and it always looks easier than those awkward diagonal rigs.

I have a dakine heli pro that is pretty sick. It has both a frame and diagonal and I prefer a frame but it is mostly personal preference

Like I said, it's counter intuitive,

I didn't believe it until I tried it.

I find it keeps your center of gravity lower and is easier to rig. To each his own tho.

mystery ranch is no longer making ski packs, at least not a day pack for sidecounty use

In that case: either get the blackjack and cinch it down, I know folks who do this. OR get yourself a nice mammut pack (Ride AIrbag, or nirvana series) OR get something that will do for a year (BCA/Dakine) and wait until next year when the new MR pack is available.
