I went out my first day of the season yesterday and I have to say I feel like an old man today. I would say it is partly due to my lack of preseason conditioning and the fact that I sat in a car for an hour and a half and did not have the patients to take a few minutes to stretch (It has been a long 8 months!).
Do you stretch or warm up before you go skiing? And if so explain your process.
I always do a couple simple stretches to warm up before a day of skiing. Only takes a couple minutes and is worth it to prevent injuries. Also yeah foam rollers after skiing is a must for me
Stretching for me is a must. Helps to get the blood flowing and to loosen up. Also, half way through the day, ill stop for 5 or 10 minutes and do a couple small stretches. Use Tiger balm when i start to get real sore after a few days without time off
I always lead some sun salutations for the crew before going out. Yoga fucking rocks for getting you ready to go shred. I try to do an hour session right as I get up, but in a pinch, 4 cycles of sun salutations works too. Two on each side for the lunges. I'll post a picture of the steps once I'm not on mobile.
Stretching is good. But make sure you do the right type of stretching at the right time. There's dynamic and static. Dynamic involves motion, this is like high knees, or swinging your legs. Something to warm you up before you shred. Static is for after a day of skiing, stretches that involve staying still.
Overall stretching is great and will help you out.
