Your First Year of Park

How'd your first year of park skiing go? What kind of tricks did you learn and how often were you working at them. Any funny stories about embarassing falls etc. looking back?

Pretty sure the worst part for me was sliding a box, skis split apart and the rest is history. Some dick up the hill yells "That guy just nutted himself!" :(

TRVP_LVRDFirst year was honestly a let down (12-13 season). I worked my ass off all summer to go to the lake placid water ramp camp. I didn't learn shit. I was too much of a püss to try anything during the ski season. I slid the small 2 foot rail all day everyday, with 360s and the occasional 540 thrown in off the small jumps. I grew a small pair of balls every now and then and threw an ugly frontflip or an equally ugly underflips. I also wore a hideous gaper onesie which attracted the attention of park rats who made fun of me on the daily. Still had a shit ton of fun, but my expectations were too high.

But this simply fueled the fire. I worked my ass off once more, and went to Ohio dreams. Actually learned a good bag of tricks, and spent what was sometimes hours on my trampoline at home.

Then ski season came around (13-14). I was comfortable sliding every rail in the park and had a much sense of style. I could blunt 5 almost every jump, and throw fronties off knuckles a lot. I could 2 both ways out of any rail, and mastered every simple swap. I actually looked somewhat good. I ditched the onesie for a hoodie and some baggy pants. I went from being "that gaper kid who slides the baby dick rail all day" to "that kid who is actually somewhat good, but not too good". Towards the end of the season I learned rodeos, flat 3s, and most importantly big ass backflips. So to anyone having a hard time progressing, just know that great things will come if you strive to achieve them.

ASAP_SMOKIELast season was my first year ever skiing. My best friend convinced me to try it because i had snowboarded for 5 years.

*JPduring my first year in the park, i progressed faster than most. on jumps, i learned how to 360 and 180 with grabs regular and switch and i learned backflips. On rails, i could slide every rail in my park both ways by the end of the season. i could also 270 on, and i learned 270s out all 4 ways. I also could 450 out sometimes. On top of all of that, i learned all 4 swaps and began getting into multiple swaps in one hit and swaps to spinning out.

NickyToorlast year was my first season of freestyle( i had learned to do normal skiing when i was 5) and i learned 1 both way, 3, and 5's no grab, a few grabs, most boxes, some flat rails and flat-down rails, fat tubes,down fat tubes, left 2 and switch on on boxes only, and very sloppy left 2 out on a tube, spinning on boxes. biggest jump I've thrown a spin off was probably 10-12 feet. also got my first tramp dub this summer at woodward at copper. Sustained a heavy knee injury near end of season which put me out for this season. hopefully next season yields some new stuff!
