Anyone out in Oregon?

I'm looking in to transfering there, but i don't really know how the schools are ranked there or if it's a worthy destination, skiing, etc. UO Eugene, portland, monmouth, la grande and corvellis are the schools i can go to (and a couple others). I woud be going as an ECON Undergrad, senior year. So how are these schools? In fact how is college life out there? hoping some NSers here might have some insight. Thanks guys

I don't go to Oregon. I am however from Oregon and have a lot of friends at UO and OSU. Its awesome, why are you looking at transferring your senior year? What are you studying? They're decent, but no stanford for public schools.

College life is awesome. I like Eugene as a whole more, think more of like minded people there. Pot just became legal, Eugene embraced it before anyway. Corvallis blows as a city, but I like the people there, they're cool. Skiing is gonna be about 2 hrs (minimum with piss stops, etc) to either Mt Bachelor or Mt Hood. Personally like Bachelor more, but I'm biased as its my home mountain.

I'll add on saying it is absolutely a worthy destination with the amount of skiing, biking, breweries, and general adventures we have. Quality of life is solid. I would pick Eugene or Portland though over the other locations.

I go to Lewis & Clark College in Portland. The school here is absolutely gorgeous and the Econ department is phenomenal. Worth a look.

So I talked to my department for exchanges here, and apparently Eugene might be pulling out... Anyway my first pick would definetly be Portland, Eugene 2nd. I have 3 picks so I'm guessing Corvallis for 3rd but I here the city is pretty boring but the school isn't that bad. Any thoughts on these shools?

It's actually an exchange program. I'm in junior year in Lyon, France, studying econ & mngt. I like the idea of Portland, apparently it's the biggest city in the state, urban over there must be crazy

but, why would you want to leave france for a backwater like oregon? contrary to popular belief, the skiing is not so good in oregon.

Grass is alway greener i guess haha. I was supposed to go to Cali but it's not really an option anymore. I also have other options like Upenn, UVA, ASU and others but Oregon sounds pretty fun. Just checking here to see if i might be wrong.

oh ok. yeah Oregon is a solid spot especially Portland. i would choose a school in Oregon over those you listed, for sure. good luck in your search.

U of Portland or Portland State? Portland State is actually the biggest school in the state and it is right in downtown. Hood is tons of fun. Skibowl is a blast as are the other places.

Those are all good schools. Willamette is a small private school and the rest are all larger public schools. La Grande is a long ways from any big ski areas but they get cold dry snow in Eastern Oregon. I hear Anthony Lakes is some of the best skiing but it is a very small area. Portland is the closest to Hood but Salem is not much further. I live just east of Salem and I drive up to Hood all the time. From Salem you are about the same distance to Hoodoo which is another cool area with 360 degrees of skiing off the summit.

If you're looking for light dry pow turn around. I've lived my entire life in Bend (center of Oregon). Killer town, great people lots of things to do. We have a ton of stuff to do like mountain biking and climbing. But our powder isn't the best.

Mt Bachelor is kind of flat and the steep stuff usually only opens after the snow has been wind blown. But I've heard the BC skiing is killer, just bought an AT set up and looking to get into it more.

I'm currently going to community college here and will be transferring to OSU next year for Engineering. If you want fast access to skiing though somewhere in Portland will be your best bet.

Mt. Hood actually has three 'big' resorts: Timberline, Mt. Hood Meadows, and Ski Bowl. While timberline has good parks, their terrain is pretty flat and limited and not super great if you like skiing out of the park. But of course, they are open for most of the year.
Mt. Hood Meadows' parks have been improving vastly the past couple years, however they are still not super great. BUT I'm pretty sure Meadows is the largest of the three resorts (don't quote me on that) and in my opinion has the best terrain (when it's fully open)
Lastly there would be Ski Bowl, which is the lowest on the mountain and smallest. however, almost the entire resort is open for night skiing so for night skiing ski bowl is great. With ski bowl being pretty low down the weather is always super iffy, and last year their season was pretty much over and soon as it started. Yet, upper Ski Bowl has some pretty nice terrain. Ski Bowl has a sick little rope tow park at the base which is super fun to lap at night, and with the fusion pass with timberline skiing the day at timberline and heading to ski bowl at night is pretty fun.
No matter what mt. Hood is going to have tons of options for what you want, so you won't really be at a huge loss for anything
