I have a gambling problem NS

So I've been gambling for about 3 months now since turing 18 and I can feel myself becoming more and more addicted to gambling. It's not affecting my life very seriously, in fact I haven't even had a net loss. (up
$246). However I feel like it's becoming ever more prominent in my daily life. Instead of surfing or skating I'm online researching and placing bets.

Any tips or advice on how to not become more addicted? I've spoken to my parents and gambling help lines about it and uninstalled sportsbet on my phone however I still feel like it has a big influence on me. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What event/sport are u gambling on? If it's like football and sports game then quit that shit. If ur talking about horse racing that's where the money is. My dad has been betting on horses since he was 18 and that's his full time job now. He's considered proffesional gambler.

You're probably not addicted, you're just exploring this newfound privilege. In 6 months or (most likely) less, you'll be 'addiction' free. It's kind of like how when all my friends turned 21, they would go out to the bars almost every night. A couple months later, they now go maybe 1-2 a month. If it continues to the point where you are willing to do something drastic, get help.

I mean you said it's only been like three months so it can't be too bad of an addiction. Just do what you can to stop idk. If it gets really bad I'd see a professional.

I've been dealing with gambling for a decade. I used to play online poker 5-14 hours a day for a few years. Took up sports betting, play poker and black jack live all the time, and now I am gambling tens of thousands daily, day trading the stock market.

It all started when I was 14 playing poker with my buddies, then one introduced me to online poker at 15 and it spiraled. I had $1000's swings within hours and was playing limits up to $10/20, maybe even higher I can't remember, and $100+ tournaments multiples at a time.

When I was around 19/20 I banned myself from most major online poker rooms, only to join smaller ones so I could keep playing. The software on them is frustrating as all hell though so online poker fizzled quickly for me, and I started going on a couple day binge every few months with my sports bet winnings to keep me satisfied which was way better then being locked in at all times. This bingeing every few months lasted a number of years.

I never once practiced proper bankroll management which is essential to any gambling success. I just couldn't do it. I needed the rush of higher and higher limits. Just writing this elicits strong emotions.

I haven't played online in well over a year I think, and I haven't bet on sports in over 6 months. I still enjoy going and playing poker or black jack live and easily lose or win a few hundred in a night without second thought. Most people think it's crazy but it's nothing compared to what I grew up with, and I only go maybe once a month.

Currently at age 26 my gambling addiction is fed by day trading the markets. That's a whole other ball game, but I'm careful about it and wouldn't ever let it put myself in financial jeopardy, although $1000 swings within minutes can be stressful.

It all started with that first $100 win, then the first $1000 win, then the need for the 5 figure win... still waiting for that one.

Just be careful!

I think the same thing that attracts me to gambling is what drives my skiing, and my need for success in life in general. Thankfully I've re-directed most of that time and energy to my career and health.

Gambling is cool just take responsibility for your shithead bets and limit and avoid them. The rest of the time you are just letting the chips fall where they may not all good bets win and not all winning bets are good bets you need to be making very good picks to be profitable overtime and that is before broaching staking strategy which trips up most would be winners as most people beat themselves when gambling.

OP, If you feel like you have a serious problem, seek professional help. There are people who specalize in gambling addiction, and it is so much easier to talk to them because they can actually relate to you. Its impossible to explain the addiction to someone who has never experienced it.

i think you missed my point there bud.
it wasnt at all related to levels of addiction.
it was in regards to how loosely you chose to toss around the word addiction.
you even said yourself that it isnt affecting your life very seriously. and last i checked, a full blown gambling addiction is pretty serious.
i was merely suggesting that if you would like to learn what an actual addiction is that you should spend some time with people who are actually addicted.
compare their scenario to yours.
seems like to me that you spend more time "gambling" than you initially anticipated, which is a fucking longggggg way from an addiction.
i never imagined i would end up jerking it every other day when i first started, but here i am! and its hardly an addiction.

instead, you chose to respond with possibly one of the worst analogies i have ever read, and then condescending chose to call me kid without looking into the very realistic possibility that i am significantly older than you.

First, it started out with the basic ones...i found the less popular game was easier to get the hang of because there were less skilled players than the advanced games. I played em all: Indian Poker, War, Go Fish...you name it and i played it.

I then starting betting on other games. First it was Digimon. I played that all through 6th grade often winning multiple snack packs at lunch. I needed more...Digimon didnt cut it. I started betting on my Pokemon matches. I will never forget the day i lost it all. My level 74 Zapados vs his level 70 Jolteon. In a span of a few moves i lost it all...my pogs, my cats eye marble even my Lego Batman for PC.

Instead of going gambling maybe save it and buy ski gear or anything else that you may need. That's why I don't gamble anymore because it seems like such a waste of money when it could go towards something else.

I went to a rehab years ago that specialized in treating people with gambling addictions. They were people there who owed 200K, 300k to yakuza land sharks in california who literally kill people for not paying up fairly often.

i hope you dont get to that point op, but seriously, at this point you sound like a pussy hypochondriac.

But srsly, op if you think long term you will make money then i dont think you have to view it as a problem. But if you think you are going to end up losing all your money you have to treat it like a drug addiction. I knew someone who owed half a million to yakuza loan sharks in san francisco and these loan sharks apparently kill people all the time.



so if you think your heading down that road go to a rehab facility that specializes in gambling addiction. Because it is a very real addiction.
