Upgrading from t3i

So I have had the canon t3i and I am thinking of upgrading to the canon 7d. Is it even worth the extra money because the specifications are very similar. For example the sensor size is practically identical. I shoot mostly video for skiing but also landscape. Should I upgrade to something like the the 7d or 7d mark II? Are there other models that in the similar price range of the 7d or maybe in full frame from canon? Also another question, if you use a crop sensor or aps-c lens on a full frame camera will it not work or be compatible?

for purely video I don't think the upgrade is worth it, if you were doing photos and stuff too it might be seeing as it shoots faster and has a few other perks for photos. And it would work physically, but you'd get really heavy vignetting so it's not recommended.

It's not just the sensor size that's identical... it's the sensor itself. It's the same 18 megapixel 1.6x crop-sensor canon used in every crop camera from the T2i until the 70D came out.

The 7D is built better, has a slightly brighter viewfinder with a better AF system, and faster burst rate. it uses CF cards instead of SD cards, and the overall image you get will not be any different than that on the T3i - whether video or photos.

The 7Dii is better because of 1080p60, fantastic AF, 10fps burst, and fantastic weatherproofing... but it's also quite pricy right now, and for video-sake, it would be cheaper, and far more practical just to switch systems entirely than to buy a 7Dii right now.

Additionally, who knows what quirks or issues will arise with the 7Dii, so it would be a safer bet to stick with what you've got or switch to something that's been proven. Go with a GH3 if you want great video and don't care so much about photos - go with the Nikon D5300 if you want 1080p60 while having a very capable photo shooter and don't want to break the bank at all.

Wait... is that for real? the 7Dii's highly touted "new" 20.2mp sensor is no better than a D300s from when I couldn't legally drink?

Probably what's most important here is what are you hoping for by buying a new camera? The t3i is a super capable body.

I wouldn't get a canon dslr. Go with a gh3, gh4, or fs100. The fs100 body is only 700 more than a 7d mark II And you get a lot better video features.

[/QUOTEThose right there are great reasons to get it but I know that many other camera have the same features. I would get a gh4 but I already have a bunch of lenses for canon. Is it worth it or is it not large enough difference from 7d to upgrade?

Ya I would use it for both photo and video. If you wanted a good well rounded camera for both is 7d2 a good choice? If I got a gh4 then I would need a speed booster which is $$$$. But is gh4 good for photography? I know it's prob the best dslr for video. Also. This is a very noob question but is the 4k video have really big files that a computer like a MacBook Air not be able to handle? It sounds like a really dumb question

If it's one of the newest: technically yes. realistically no.

There is no need for 4K anyway.
