Difference between riding centered skis and non-centered skis?

What skis did you buy? Where are you riding? How much do you weigh and are you any good at carving?

It's a strange one really. There is no denying it a non symmetrical ski will ski better non centered however this is for skiing, so carving and using the skis how they were tradionaly intended. If most of your skiing is on rails and jib parks your not really using the skis in a conventional manner. I actually ski all my park skis centered regardless of if they are symmetrical or not. I prefer it in the park and I have adapted my style out of the park to be able to ski it. Overall this is just another reason I really advocate demoing. Demo bindings allow you to change mount point as well as boot size so you can test a ski and really decide where you like it best.

Overall I think it come down to what you will use the skis for. If it's mainly just rails and jibs you will prob prefer center. If you combine rails with jumps and out of the park skiing coming slightly back from center will probably be better but personal preference is a huge factor.

Atomic punx (176) and infamous (171) both 2014 models and recommended is at true center on both skis. I ride out east, mostly in New Hampshire, usually at cannon and loon. Thats a lot of hard pack, bumps, groomers, and that occasional heavy pow day. I do about 50 50 between out and in the park and im not too bad at carving but not jesus. Also i weigh around one hundred thirty pounds and am about 5 foot 4 inches tall. Im not sure how center mounting one of the pairs will go since ive never ridden any centered skis before.

Well the imfamous has to be centered as its symmetrical. So I would go center I the imfamous and -1 on the punx so you can keep a slightly better carving performance on them.

They are both symmetrical skis, I just went and checked. Since they are both on the longer side to what im used to, should i just center the infamous because they are shorter? Also would setting back a symmetrical ski thats recommended for center going to make it any worse? Also thanks tom +k

You are right. I thought the punx was asymmetrical for some reason. Well for both center them you don't really want to ride a symmetrical ski anywhere but center.
