We're about a year out, perfect time for conspiracies
This is the place for Star Wars VII news and speculation.
I'll start.
If you watch the movies in this order: 4, 5, 2, 3, 6
and skip the first one, the prequels actually fit really well and it helps the story flow a lot better. The first movie isn't even necessary to set up any of the plot, and without it the prequels really aren't that bad
Going to be the best Star Wars movie to date. Abrams isn't going to fuck this up; there's a phenomenal budget with a great director, nothing but the best in terms of producers and cinematographers and production. They've been planning this for a while and know that it needs to be perfect or it will be shredded to pieces by Star Wars fans.
I am super stoked. Loved what JJ Abrams did with Star Trek so hopefully he busts out some of that magic again and doesn't do a dishonor to the greatest scifi franchise in history
episode 3 was great, the clone wars show got great after the first two seasons as well. Seeing how lucas isn't directing, I think episode 7 is going to be excellent. stoked to see the old cast return!

Basically, Luke Skywalker has a "Force Unleashed" moment and realizes he might be bad for the universe.The aftermath of that event is difficult for Luke.
Luke Skywalker has become the most powerful Jedi ever, but he doesn't believe he's the wisest. He doesn't want to make the mistake his father made by thinking he knows what's right for the universe. Skywalker becomes somewhat deranged in his seclusion. He is consumed by his fear that if he should return to "society" his power could be misused, he could be manipulated, and he may accidentally hurt the one's he loves.
For these reasons, to protect the galaxy and himself, Luke retreats into self-imposed exile for many years. I'm told he can't always control the power. While he sits in a meditative state, he levitates things unconsciously and he's not always in complete control and he's never sure if he's doing the will of the Force or acting on his own passions. Luke is seeing the past, the present, the future, "old friends long gone" and other things that prey upon his sanity.
Luke Skywalker is described as "creepy and frightening in appearance" because you supposedly can see "the fire in his eyes" behind his grizzled appearance during some scenes.
For most of Luke's appearance in Star Wars: Episode VII, it is questionable if his madness will result in evil. Not even those that have known him for most of his life know if he's sane or not. However, the villain and the new hero both draw Skywalker out and he's forced to intervene in the galactic conflict. The imbalance he feared bringing back to the galaxy is set into motion by the new evil. But it is not only evil that brings Luke Skywalker out of exile. The good in the universe does as well when one of the heroes convinces him the place he is in is not where he belongs.
By the last act of the film, it is clear where Luke falls on spectrum of good and evil."

That seems like an awful lot of screen time for an old Mark Hamill...
He is the biggest reason the prequels weren't as good as they should have been. He was supposed to become more consumed with hate and a badass, instead we got a whiny 12 year old girl.
While the prequels weren't fantastic, I think Hayden Christensen did a pretty good job playing a complicated part. The transition from a noble legendary warrior to the most badass, hate and anger filled being in the galaxy isn't going to be a walk in the park for any actor. However I really do hope that the new films will be better than I, II, and III, and with JJ directing, I'm not to worried.
I'm excited, but skeptical. JJ did do an AMAZING job with the new Star Trek, so hopefully he does well with these, too. Either way, I'll watch and purchase because its fucking star wars...
as a die hard fan, I obviously will watch it. To be fully honest.....I really don't know how I feel about a continuation of the most epic saga of all time. Maybe if they did a run off trilogy of the extended universe or something, but to continue the sage.....just doesn't sit well with me. I'm trying to be optimistic about these movies coming out, but it's kinda hard to be. Please NS tell me I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Really though - check his imdb page. Guy is the king of b movie cameos. Guy has over 250 appearances in movies and television. its hard to find an actor who touches a number like that.
im just stoked to see a star wars movie on the big screen again. imax 3d all the way for this one.
I am a bit skeptical about the disney influence but we will see. I love how very very little information is out there about this movie. its all speculation.

holy shit. i had no idea. he has done a TON of voice work. totally didn't realize he was the joker in the batman arkham games either....
It's hard for me to convey my Star Wars bonafides without wanting to kill myself after....but believe me when I say that I love Star Wars. I saw the re-released "Special Edition" (Special Ed alright....) in the theatre, and loved them, mostly. There was weird shit like the animated musical dance numbers (but at least that was actually in line with what George Lucas originally wanted there), the walking Jabba, Greedo shooting first, etc. but all in all, it was fucking rad to get to see some version of Star Wars on the big screen.
I was in 10th grade when Ep. I came out, and obviously went to see it opening night. My world collapsed. It was a good thing in the big picture probably because I'd rather be the mountain dude bro I am than the comicon dweeb nerd I could've been, but it sucked at the time. Jar Jar was just inexcusable, the political and trade b plot was mind numbingly stupid/contrived/tacked on, and the acting across the board (dialog huge part of the problem, but not all of it—and fuck you you Ewan Mc and Liam Neeson apologists, they were horrible too!! I digress.) was really awful.
Yes, the next 2 movies were better, SLIGHTLY, but they still were cynical, greedy, child-targeted, merchandising driven pieces of commercial shit. And, not even particularly good commercial dog shit.
I have very, very mild guarded optimism that these movies could turn out...fine. There's some pretty talented people involved, I for one don't think the Disney association is the death knell, and I'm really relieved that George Lucas doesn't have any real say in the plot, the direction, the anything, because he just isn't a very good filmmaker at this point, if he ever truly was to begin with. It would be a really pleasant surprise for this flick to be on the level of say something like a Nolan Batman or maybe like a less funny and irreverent Guardians of the Galaxy or something. It could also really be terrible, but we've been burned bad.
We will see what happens, but I'm glad this is happening now as opposed to 5 years ago during the 3d bullshit. Also, I feel like uhh "smartish" blockbusters are getting a little more traction, and like there's a little more care going into the upper echelon of these tent pole movies (some of them, some of them are shit). People are more receptive and open to Sci-Fi and dystopian future (past) fiction then really ever before with the Hunger Games, Hary Potter, all of it really. I guess all I'm really trying to say is that studios have incentive to actually make a quality, somewhat artful Star Wars movie because there's an audience and the longsighted view would be to sustain a franchise on quality and excitement. People will go see VII no matter what, me included, but if it's terrible, I'm out on VIII and IX and hopefully other people are too.
Last thing. I wish they would've abandoned the Skywalker arc (or at least the central canon movie version) and picked up one of the better narrative arcs from the expanded universe. There's 3 or 4 book trilogies that would've been killer, and even maybe from a video game, like KOTOR. It's a cool, fully realized universe, and had they given a talented writer more freedom to build around other characters, it could've produced a better movie I think. But, this could still be cool. I want it to be anyway.

Fuck yeah!! That's exactly what I was referring too. The Rogue Squadron books in my opinion are the best, but I think the Thrawn trilogy is better in an Act structure kind of way, and would transfer to films a bit better. I'm sure that if these movies are both critically and commercially successful, other star wars spin off flicks won't be far behind. Look at Marvel and D.C. The only issue is that I don't know how the rights to characters and stories works when they're all created by different people and not necessarily underneath one company/publisher like they are in the case of the comic book flicks. Maybe Disney DOES own all Star Wars characters and intellectual properties or whatever I don't know, but that might be a hurtle, paying everyone and keeping people happy.

I'd favor Thrawn because of a few things. FIrst, I think that he's a fantastic and complex villain. He isn't straight up evil, and his rise to power is very interesting. Additionally, his species in relation to the Empire's obvious xenophobia could make for some good parallels to current events. Finally, the ecological storyline that ends in his death is also very relevant today. Rogue would be rad too, though. I really just hope they happen at some point.
One of the great examples of leave good shit alone. Was a cool concept in theory but didnt work out. The newer 3 were pretty rough. I like to pretend they never got made. God knows where the story will go now
welp, this thread just inspired me to drink an 18rack and watch all six episodes in a single night. three beers per movie, might have to take it to four or five to make it through episodes I-III though.
Man, the part when that voice says " and the light...." then the Millennium Falcon flies around with the Theme Song....just so fucking epic. I watched the thing like 10 times.
