In-Ground Trampoline

My trampoline mat is ripping to shit. Obviously I could just buy a new mat, but I've been thinking of getting a new trampoline for a while now, and now is a better time than any. What are in-ground trampolines like? How much is it for drainage underneath or can you just put like a foot of gravel?

I don't know anything about landscaping or whatever this even falls into... but couldn't you just have dirt? You could also probably find some material that is soft and doesn't hold water and doesn't get damaged when it gets wet, and put that down on top of gravel or dirt or whatever you want.

why do you need drainage? if a pool forms beneath the trampoline it will kick up a refreshing spray every time you use it.

WTF does it even matter? You shouldn't be bottoming it out and touching the water anyway unless it rains like a foot or two, but after that I probably wouldn't go outside.

Water build up creates issues like erosion, so you dont want your trampoline sinking haha. Also water down there will smell like shit with all sorts of stuff growing and living in it. All you need is a layer of gravel under it and you will be fine

Kinda serious answer, in some soil classes n shit so I'm basically Dr NS Soil with this shit

You're going to need to know the soil horizons in your area (google it, you aint paying me) and depending on that you'll need to create a drainage system that can sufficiently move the average amount of seasonal area rainfall (you may be on a daily hydroperiod, idk where you live) + a couple inches.

Chances are (depending on where you live) when you get a few feet deep you're going to be hitting loamy clays or silty clays. These compacted soils will be terrible for drainage and won't be able to handle it alone. Adding gravel (you had the right idea, good job) will definitely help but it'll just eventually flood over when the sub-soil is saturated. You also might end up fucking yourself if it erodes away.

Personally I would say your best bet is to do a little bit of research in your area and see what you're dealing with. From there figure out where the best drainage happens in your yard (srsly this can be the difference between a pool and a tramp) and create an angled pit with an additional PVC drain pipe leading downhill away from your pit. It would be very wise to make walls in the pit, otherwise it'll become a drainage hole for the surrounding areas.

three minute decision of what I would do:

~4" of drainage gravel (uniform grade)

cinder blocks under each end of tramp leg

fill in gravel in center to stabilize cinder blocks

use strong wire to attach cinder blocks to legs.

extra points: anchor the cinder blocks with a hooked piece of rebar.

Or just dig holes for the legs. :)

i don't get all the hate. It was the only way i was aloud to have a tramp as a kid. Was great to ride your bike across and my dog loved jumping on it plus you could do shit from tramp to ground or reverse to learn how to do shit off the ground. But I lived in a place without a lot of rain in the summer and lived on a shelf so we didn't really worry about drainage but I'm sure gravel would work. One downside is that if you put a mat around it you severely lose bounce because it just traps air so you have to leave open springs for best result. just my $0.02 hope it helps if you have any questions on what i did just send me a pm.
