Caucasian_AsianWhy did you buy an 18-DIN binding anyways?
.nylesHe said he bought skis with them already on them. do you even read?
with that said, definitely sell them and get regular jesters as said above. The hole pattern is the same and can be remounted in the same spot with no problem and no extra drilling.
3_6mediaI am 5' 10 and 135 lbs and ride my DINs at an 8. It allows for pressy butters but is still able to release when I wipe out
3_6medianah you should be fine. if you go +1 above recommended DIN setting it's not going to rip your knees out when you fall
parkplaygroundif you have to ask, chances are that you need a lower din binding, but just to be sure, the height and weight would definitely allow around a 9 din if you ski aggressively (im about the same size and ride 9.5-10.5 park, 11 moguls) I don't have any problems, but a lot of the time, I am in a worse situation where if my ski fell off i would be in more trouble. its all about if you think its worth it.
If you decide that you can't handle an 8 din binding which is completely understandable if you aren't aggressive enough, definitely go to the Jester
Micah-WThis may be a stupid question but would it be difficult to remount them by yourself?
Sh4dowA ski shop tech said most people ride DINs higher than recommended?
The charts have type 1, type 2, and type 3. If you are a typical advanced skier, type 3 is right for you. If you are an aggressive expert skier, then you would go up one more level, which is sometimes informally referred to as type 3+.
Pre-release is dangerous, yes. You don't want your skis to fall off when you land a 30 foot cliff. But having DIN too high is dangerous too, because if you fall and your DIN is too high, your skis won't release and your legs could break.
It is better to go too low than too high, and raise them a little at a time as needed.
You can also look up DIN charts online.
If you are just 'advanced', not an aggressive expert, then you should not be going above the type 3 recommendation, so I would recommend you return the bindings and get some different ones that have your DIN in their range.
