Canon EOS-M?

Has anyone looking into/used a Canon EOS-M? I would be looking mainly for ski filming and it would be my first upgrade from gopro... I have been looking a little and found that it has the same APS-C sensor as the t4i and at 244 for a new body it seems pretty decent. Other camera's I have been looking at are used t2i's and etc, but am open to suggestions.

Currently I have a Carl Zeiss t* Planar 1.7/50 lense from an old Contax Camera (I understand I would need an adapter, the EOS-M being mirrorless would make this easier?) and a 52mm Sigma mini-wide 1:2.8 F=28mm lense. I do not have a full understanding of lenses so maybe someone else would have a better understanding of how useful those are to me (they were inherited) for what I want to do. I also splurged on a glidecam hd-2000 recently so will have stabilization covered for some situations.

I would be mainly looking to film followcams as well as semi close filming outside the park in more of a big mountain skiing setting from the top of drops and etc, while occasionally using a zoom lense to film bigger lines when I can. I have a computer with an i5 processor and 4gb of ram, it runs premiere pro OK? but not excellent. I am looking for something I can teach friends how to use while still producing quality shots (I understand glidecams have a learning curve and have used one before). And am trying to keep my budget between 600 and 1000!

Any help is greatly appreciated, pretty new to ski filming and tried to follow the quide to asking what camera as close as possible.

Looking at the specs, it seems like a good low budget option if it does have the same sensor as the t3i. AVCHD is a slightly better codec than the h.264 of the t3i too. The ability to adapt any vintage lens mount makes it more flexible too.

The EOS M with an adapted tokina 11-16, that 28mm 2.8, and your zeiss 50 (which is an awesome lens, you should be super stoked on inheriting that) would be a good lens setup that covers wide, normal, and short telephoto and would only set you back like 600 bucks total since you already own two lenses.

I'd say go for it.

A few people over at /p/ fawn over the M. The kit lens 22mm is arguably Canon's best non-L lens, the kit zoom is much better then the ordinary zoom as well.
But yes go to /p/, the archive sucks bad but if you ask in the video general thread the EOS M shooters will crop up. It's a light tiny little bastard though so it will be unbalanced very easily by larger lenses.

As far as lenses.

I have that Sigma lens, it's sharp as dicks, normally I would recommend Novoflexes black/blue cockrings/adapters with German prices but to be fair most 30 bucks from the 'Bay will be fine.

The Contax Zeiss lens is incredible, do have to ask do you still have the camera? Because the RTS line is still worth quite decent money for an old slr.

I do still have the camera! and am slowly learning to use it better, but I am finding that it is expensive to learn on a film camera... With it being so unbalanced would I still be able to balance it okay on a glidecam? Basically what I am trying to choose between at this point is getting a used t2i or a EOS-M with the 22mm lense, since both would end up being close to the same price, then getting another lense and adapters for what I already have. Does anyone know if this has been used to film skiing yet? Ive seen that alot of people are using them for interview kind of stuff and etc...

Damn, I'm jealous of that planar. That is a pretty pretty lens.

I don't know though... for ski videos I don't know how well it would hold up. Big lenses on it would be unbalanced as hell like Lawrence said.

Yeah im worried about that a little, I think the mirrorless would be fun to use as a high quality point and shoot camera until I am able to invest in a better DSLR at some point in the future, but there is no point in getting it if it will suck for actual filming. I mean if it balances on a glidecam then it should be okay? but its all theoretical till someone actually tries it.

The only thing EOS-M has going for it is that stores are dumping them at rock-bottom prices, so you can find ridiculous deals on it.

Considering your budget and that 1.7/50 Planar, I'd look into a Sony A6000 with Contax G adapter instead. It is a much better camera than the EOS-M and very affordable. The A6000 has ridiculously fast autofocus, and with the right adapter it will actually autofocus that Contax lens. It also has an electronic viewfinder which is awesome in snowy situations.

Yeah, let's spend a 1000 bucks on a camera with an adapter that will break said camera when someone is looking at a 300 dollar camera.

I have an EOS M and I love it - however I also have a 5D3. I use the M as a pocket camera with the 22mm lens. It takes wonderful pictures and is pretty tack sharp for such a small lens. I do also have the EF-M -> EF adaptor. Putting on a 24-70mm is terrible but it does throw the weight off and I couldn't imagine ever using it for skiing.
