Wildlife photography

Anyone shoot wildlife photography on the reg? I've been considering trying my hand at it lately due to the fact that I drive right by a massive wildlife sanctuary 5 days a week for work and tons of really cool birds are always flying by.

I'm considering just picking up a Teleconverter for use with my 80-200 and trying it out. Any experiences to share?

I love shooting pictures of wildlife. When I went to alaska I got some pics of Walruses which were dope, my best pic:

This one is my most proud posession.


at home I usually just shoot pics of the birds and stuff

It was unreal, they just started going at it. I used my droid razr for that one, I had just packed up my Epic Dragon so I didn't want to take it back out.

I forgot about Edwin! he was one of the park rangers that brought us out to take pictures. I think he was just giving that walrus a hug. Quite amicable those walruses. Though to be honest, I never really looked beyond the two walruses going at it.

What are people's opinions on Teleconverters? a 2x would turn my 80-200 into a 160-400 f5.6. Sounds legit to me, esp being my AF system works perfectly fine at that EV.

Not sure if quality would really suffer though since Nikon never came out with a screwdrive TC from my research and it would have to be a 3rd party brand like Bower or Vivitar...

Get the Japanese rong-lange zoom lens of cheap and cheerfulness.

It will bend when zooming, but look at that glorious length.



Perv-o-vision on a budget, no need for the Nikon 1200-1700 or Canon 1200.

Mega-telephotos are for goobers. Shoot wild animals up close with a portrait lens, like Nick Brandt:
