SoCal ski scene

I'm just going to be honest. All shops near you will blow. It's almost as if the twin tip movement hasn't reached the LA area yet. Also, they will not put out their snow sports equipment until Christmas, which was just annoying. As for the skiing, nothing will compare to what you were used to in CO. Mammoth is sweet, but it is very far. Difficult to manage in a single day. I enjoyed snow summit, but each resort in the area has their own pluses and minuses. The snow when I lived in the area was actually pretty sweet year after year (relative to what SoCal is used to). But lately he snow has been pretty unpredictable and horrible in all of california, but especially in the san bernardino mountains. Spend all of his season hitting up eah place a few times and just go with the one you liked the most.

Get Boards is up in Big Bear, they're a pretty cool shop. Snowboarders will definitely dominate the slopes in Southern California. Bear mountain is virtually one giant terrain park. Mountain High is pretty cool too. Don't expect much of the snow conditions, it's basically spring conditions all season. You can do the Cali4nia pass and do Bear Mountain + Mammoth on the same pass.

Op, get the Cali4nia pass I reckon. It has Bear mountain, snow summit, mammoth and June mountain.

Bear is the absolutely most classic scene in the world. The Town of Big Bear is stuck in a dichotomy between strip malls and the original 1950's ski town built up there. Spring Skiing all year pretty much, and when you are over it you get to drive down a windy road to perfect weather. It will scratch the itch but you aren't going to have hero days up there.

Bear mountain and snow summit is your best bet for something close by... last couple years had been atrocious though.

Mountain High deserves a mention too. It gets a lot of shit for hosting the largest conglomerate of gapers on the west coast, but on decent snow years they have a park that’s as good as Bear’s, and the drive is NEVER as bad as to Bear. It’s not Mammoth, and it’s sure not Aspen or Breck, but High is cheap, close, and easy.
