BoziteSo I am looking for a pair of skis for touring. And I want to know what are the best touring skis? And also, how well do twin tip touring skis work? I have my eye on 4frnf hojis, renegades, volkl shiros and chopsticks, moment jaguar sharks, atomic automatics, and bentchetlers. Thoughts on those or recommendations? Thanks!
MartianManTell us where you are skiing, what types of touring, your importance of up vs. down performance, skier type, ability, height, weight, and age. Also all of those skis you mentioned aren't touring skis, they are free ride skis. Some can be used for slackcountry touring, but if you are planning on having a specific touring rig, I would look else where.
BoziteI will be skiing around bozeman montana.
BoziteI will be skiing around bozeman montana. All types of touring, and down is more important to me. I am enjoy big mountain but like to ski everything. I am 16, 6' 145 and am an advanced skier. Wouldn't the renegades and hojis be good though?
50KalThat is a very broad statement. Specifically what are you planning to do on your skis? Are you doing multi day trips? are you doing day trips? Sled trips? Are you gonna do long approaches? Are you going to just boot pack 20 mins from the lift? Are you gonna use this ski just for BC or gonna jib with it? Are you gonna have tech binding or reg AT binding?
a_shaky_gifyes both skis will do just fine. i tour on the crjs (twin tip) and they do just fine. i like the softer feel of the crj though, and im 6'1 165lbs
BoziteThis will be used only for bc and day trips. This ski will be used only for bc with at bindings

BoziteWhat size do you use?
50KalSo it sounds like your just starting to get into the BC. I would say virtually anything would work(like said above^).
If you have some old twin tips just mount them with some barons or trackers and your set to go.
If you want to spend a pile of money you can buy new AT boots, Bindings, Skis, skins and everything else you can but that is super expensive. Money wise and beginner (BC) wise your better off finding something older and used. Once you get into it more than you can start testing and buy more expensive lighter weight gear as you want.
Just like beginner park riders don't go out and buy volkl walls with FKS 18s you shouldn't be running out and buying BD megwatts with Dynafit Beast.
Also make sure you take a Avi course and get the proper Avi gear(beacon, probe, shovel). Don't just get your AT stuff and follow other peoples skin tracks. Find yourself a mentor in the area your skiing in.
Too many people going into BC with out proper knowledge or respect for the mountains these days.
Thats not to say your like that OP but just stating the current attitude of BC skiing these days.
