Hoodcrew secretly hates their sponsors: Bombardier Gin, Smith and Wesson, and their dealer. They are all secretly upstanding members of freeskiing who do not partake in drinking and doing drugs, and enjoy giving stuffed animals to children on the street.

Definitely agree. He makes so much fun out of them in his videos, but he has to get them in somehow or else he'd be hungry. Creative and kinda sad.

*we give stuffed animals to the homeless so they have a pillow to lay their head on at night. it makes a big difference.. try sleeping without a pillow tonight

and back to this thread. not very many ppl "hate"their sponsors, a lot of fools just have lame sponsors that pay them and get them snowmobiles so they still rep a fruity company that promotes all the colors of the rainbow

Getting paid an hourly wage is far from "free stuff". Your selling an hour of your life, but you do have a point. I'm sure everyone has specific brands they love and hate, a lot of people would take money and free stuff from a company they hate. I don't know if their is someone out there who views skiing as only a source of income, but I would assume most people who ski only to be sponsored and try to get paid never get good enough to reach that point anyways.

I'm sure many of the bigger companies wouldn't care if they're riders like their skis anyways. As long as they're making money off them they're most likely happy.

This is a dumb thread, but even dumber are the responses saying that nobody hates their sponsors...Think about it, skiing for a living, no matter how fun, is a job. Some people hate their jobs. Now no pro skier hates skiing, but they very well may hate the look of their clothing, the performance/longevity of their skis, or their sponsor's official image. A lot of sponsors don't allow their professionals to release content with profanity or drug use or anything like that...it fucking sucks. You want to put out good projects and show nothing but yourself, but you have to work with other brands to make a living, you know. It isn't awful or anything, but it's not ideal for a huge amount of skiers out there.

I legitimately question team loyalty by Nordica. I personally love their skis, but If you are a skier who likes a lot of rocker or soft skis, You are outta luck on Nordica. The Nordica Lineup has a lot of people who probably love those types of skis, but definitely a few who like soft rockered noodles. I wouldnt doubt someone like Lupe being stoked to ride something like a halo 2 or alpha X for a change of pace.

I still think the Nordica team is pretty loving overall though

So many folks on this site have a very vague notion of what it means to be sponsored. It's not just free gear. There's nothing free about it--product trade comes as compensation for work that results in exposure for a brand, in the simplest terms. Once that exposure reaches a certain level, which completely varies from sponsor to sponsor, it gets compensated for money.

Some skiers can make that work into a real lifestyle, some others are banging nails in the summer to pay for their own travel, and still others have some free gear but pay for their groceries by working a winter job while they piss off their boss by taking chunks of time to go film or compete.

There's no question that combining passion with profession can yield happiness. But that makes it more complicated, and less of a simple escape. Professional skiers are constantly determining their own next move in their careers. If they succeed, great. If they're wrong, they end up on the sidelines. This is often a creative act, not simply following a job description that somebody wrote for them. They up the ante with their own health as the consequence.

Nobody expects accountants to crunch numbers with a rabid gorilla in the room, but if your sponsors paid for trip and the heli is in the air, it's expected that four inches of fresh atop rocks and ice will look good.

So in a nutshell, it's complicated like any job with real consequences. And to look at it as just free gear misses a great deal of what it means.

oh right i forgot keiran mcveigh rides really stiff skis with no rocker and he can't butter or press on them. you nailed it.

Exactly! It's better to quit being them as a sponsor because I know for sure that there are more or someone deserved the free better.

I once heard a story about a pro that used to be on Dynastar I think, and he was literally walking round whistler trying to sell his pow skis so he could afford some hellbents. I doubt he held his sponsor in high esteem.

I'm sure there has to be more people out there that accept deals because they allow them to live the life they want to but in return have to use products that aren't really what they want or promote something the don't believe in.
I know that brands such as Dare2Be a discount uk outerwear company have teams, and I know that if they weren't getting paid they would never wear those jackets. I can imagine that it is difficult for people who ride for camera companies such ad Ion and Sony to feel like they really are promoting something better than GoPro.

To say that you must hate your sponsor because you don't like what they make is a pretty simplified way of saying it. I dislike every energy drink I've ever tasted, if everyone sponsored by them likes the products then I'd be amazed. But I bet they love the company for the support they give. On the flip side I'm also certain there are skiers out there who work there ass off all summer, ski there ass off all winter using skis they don't really like and only just scrape by. I can't see those guys feeling too much love for sponsors if they know the sponsors could do more for them or make a better product.

Soul riders have Early rise and medium flex. Not soft noodles. Kieran is just so good that he makes them look softer and more buttery. Same thing with Adam delorme and faction 2.0s. When I say to rocker and really soft I mean domains halos And other soft skis.
