Boots significantly smaller than shoe size?

So this is my first year skiing after switching from snowboarding, and I went to a bootfitter so I wouldn't fuck myself with shit boots. The bootfitter told me I should get a size 27.5 full tilt and I tried them on and they fit, although they were tight, but my shoe size is somewhere around a 12 which should correlate to like a 30 boot size. Has anyone else had a boot recommended that is a lot smaller than their shoes size would suggest? Also, the boots I got (2013 Tom Wallisch Full Tilts) are size 27.5, and they are pretty tight, not too tight to where I can't wear them, but tight enough that I can't see myself riding a whole day with them. How much of a difference will heat molding play in opening up the boot to make them more fitting/comfortable?

I wear a size 10 shoe (size 28 boots), but I've always used a size 25.5 or size 26, which fits my feet perfectly. I do prefer my boots to be more on the tight side though.

i wear a 10 1/2 shoe and ski a 27.5 full tilt konflict. at first the boot seemed way to small. but, once i walked around in them for 10 -15 minutes, the insoles expanded and the boot felt much more comfortable. Heat molding a boot is a great way of getting another years worth out of your boot. however i have heard a lot of different opinions on heat molding. in my opinion, start with a different size insole first, and if that doesn't work out, then either get a different size boot, or heat mold them. PS, make sure that to boot is fully buckled as tight as you feel comfortable with. this helps by pushing your heal further back into the boot giving your toes more room.

Shoe size is irrelevant. Most guys wear their shoes too big anyway. I wore US 12 shoes when I was 15-17 and now buy US 10 or 10.5. My feet haven't shrunk over the past 14 years. Buy boots to the length of your feet.

The size transfer tables aren't very useful I have a size 13 shoe in I wear a 28.5 boot

This. Your shoe size is not your foot size and it's not your mondo-point size. Especially with FT, as their mondo-point sizing is a bit different compared to the normal.

If you have been fitted, then at least that person has seen, measured, and shell checked you. We are not able to do that.

I often envision a world where there are no Mondo Point-Shoe size charts. People seem to have a ludicrous amount of pride when it comes to their shoe size for some reason. When I used to work in a shop there were so many people that would insist on just getting rental boots in their shoe size and then come back angry at the end of the day with foot pain. Forget about an arbitrary number: just try a bunch of shit on till you find what conforms to your foot nicely.
