tomPietrowskiOr you could just rent while you are there. That way you get new skis every year. You can try differnt models out and you can ride them like a rentel ie don't worry about trashing them.
PentHausYou can find some proven winners from the years past for around $300 with coupons. Sometimes under if you get lucky on eBay or something..
But again, therein lies the problem. Each brand and model have different feels and characteristics that require demoing to really understand which one fits YOUR style. The secret is tho; When in doubt, and can't demo, go blizzard and on3p/moment if your a charger, and go k2/line if you like to get crazy, go 4frnt if you want the best of both worlds.
