Future of Wakeboarding?

I have zero background or interest in wake boarding.

With that being said, that video was rad as hell. If there was anything next level about it it was lost on me though.

I wakeboard a little during the summer thanks to my rich ass cousins but I couldnt even imagin doing some of that stuff. Looks awsome though.

Wakeboarding is wakeboarding and kiteboarding is kiteboarding. They're very similar but still very different.

The future of wakeboarding is going to continue to go in the cable park/winch direction. Parks are popping up everywhere, and it's way cheaper to get a pull there than to buy a boat. Maybe you could ride a kite in a cable park, I honestly am not sure of the feasibility of something like that, or how much space you would need to be able to use a kite, but the cable provides a much more steady and consistent tow for jibbing and hitting hitting rails and what not.

Riding unhooked kiteboarding is basically the same as wakeboarding. Same concept of load and pop and you don't get huge air unhooked (generally) since the kite will get ripped out of your hands. If you watch the top guys they're doing the same tricks really and both train in cable parks. You can't obviously kite in a cable park but they set up the same kickers and rails for kiters just in more open areas. The slack in the lines in a cable park is similar to the flex of the kite and the slack in the lines when riding unhooked as well.

I agree with you though that wakeboarding in a cable park especially is much more accessible than kiting, but I think in terms of innovation in the sport there's more you can do with a kite

Ok, I hear you. I Didn't realize people rode unhooked, that's pretty rad. I've always wanted to try kiteboarding, looks like a good time.

This is the future of the sport. Well, cable riding in general is. The amount of boat riding being done is slowly on the decline as people choose to wakesurf rather than wakeboard. It's pretty explainable why thats the case, the people who can afford the 100 thousand dollar wake boats are generally older, and don't want to put their body on the line. Whereas the people wakeboarding, younger people, can't even think of affording a wake boat. But a pass to the cable park for a year? No problem

It doesn't help that companies like Mastercraft are completely veering away from the sport, creating surf specific boats and dropping the Pro Tour. Actually attempting to make wakesurfing - driving in a circle and throwing up big waves that ruin the lake for everyone else - cool and fun. When really, it's not.

Raph changed the game with this edit, and it's gonna open up riders minds away from the traditional side of riding to becoming more creative. This will progress the sport, and only further grow the ever expanding cable aspect of it. Hopefully more wakeboards start selling, and less and less wakesurfs.
