Opinions on Nikon D5300

D5300 > D5200 because 1080p60.

Other than that, not much difference. Decent base level DSLR with solid video options, and easy to build a lens system.

Really looked into that camera for a while, and I loved every feature about it, except for two things. All of my friends (and everyone I know), who is into film has canon equipment. So if youre big on smeaging equipment from your friends, chances are its not gonna work. Other than that, the issue I had was that nikons are kind of a pain in the butt to change the exposure on. Correct me if I'm wrong, but with all of the nikons I've had the chance to use, I've found that you cant change exposure while in live-view.

This indeed is a pain in the ass, as you have to go out of live view, change your aperture, and go back into it... but if you use vintage lenses - say the cheap non-AI vintage lenses from yesteryear, you can change it just using the aperture ring.

Additionally, if I'm shooting video, honestly, I usually pop my camera into S mode, meter for the appropriate shutter speed through the VF, find my settings, and set up the camera that way, so I'm not hunting so much. It's really a non-factor even with G lenses if you really know what you're doing.
