That last thread got incredibly stupid by the end. Totally willing to engage in the debate, but lets go clean slate.

Mods shouldn't edit posts except to clean up bad embeds, failed pictures, etc.

If Ladygabber makes NS soft then so be it. The reason this was created was to give the females a cool place they can hang out and make their own.

are you referring to the mod argument there? i think bishop's second line in this post "mods shouldn't edit posts except to fix failed embeds etc" pretty much ends that argument. i'm sure a certain mod still has himself convinced the whole thing stems from jealousy about his sweet mod powers, but im glad to hear bishop say that. i wouldve left the thread up as a monument to shitty internet arguments but i completely feel him on starting this thread as a blank slate

i don't have much of an opinion on the lady gabber-- i think it's a great idea, don't see any downside

Didn't even think of that! Lol... The fact that they changed it so I couldn't sneak into the girl clubhouse unnoticed or whatever is the part that cracks me up and kind of annoys me. Like, really?? I didn't even know it existed until I was blue and asked why. I was like "what the fuck is a lady gabber?" lol... Kind of funny but whatever. I should have seen that coming a long way off. It's too fun of a thing to live on in the new NS, which is serious motherfuckin' business now.

my thoughts on that: no, i don't think so, but we've gotten a little close. im all for ladies gabber and "outlawing" calling people f_____ts and N words or something but beyond that i think we need to let it fly. the one thing that caught my eye in that other NSG thread was the bit about NSFW pics and links. im all for not having NSFW stuff just embedded but i think links, IF LABELED AS SUCH, should be allowed to be nsfw

it's definitely tough to pick a happy medium though, so i feel ya. for instance, i think yeah it's a little soft for some posts to get deleted sometimes but on the other hand, i think it's pretty lame when brett-fisher gets his pictures from real life posted and ragged on etc..dude's young, lay off. but then i don't want people getting carried away with rules to combat that....we don't want cyber nannies

First, when has it not been "outlawed" to be racist and homophobic? That's been a rule since, literally, 2006 or so. Possibly earlier.

We just made this change to the rules to reduce the bullshit and remove the people propogating the bullshit. The trend has been positive and we haven't even finished doing what needs doing yet. I figured it would take into the winter to see a marked improvement.

In other words, your "let it fly" concept has been what we've done for 2+ years and it's resulted in the forum becoming complete garbage. Why would we go back to that when things are already slowly but gradually improving?

-my point was beyond that, yeah we'd like to see a little less BS in the forums but my point is that you need to be careful not to over do it, as bishop is obviously addressing with asking what is "too soft"

i think beyond certain (nearly) universally agreed upon rules e.g. no calling people n-----, it's way too subjective to make any decent rules about. a lot of what we all talk about is subjective. an occasional irreverent "OP's mom" joke is funny in the right situation. ten of them aren't. an entire derailed thread over it sucks. we all agree on that, but how would you mod that objectively? maybe we have to take the bad with the good

further, i am really not of the opinion that there was some golden age when the forums were some bastion of thoughtful and well balanced discussion and repartee. ive been on these forums since 2001ish and while the memes and general environment change over time, i'm of the opinion that there has always been a similar makeup of good comedy, good discussion, and bullshit. i think it's maybe changed in form over the years but that's it. threads were ruined by pissy fights and stupid in-jokes in 2001, in 2006, and in 2014. maybe there's more 4chan esque stuff nowadays but whatever, that's a natural occurrence as the internet grows. like i said, you gotta take the bad with the good sometimes...

i dunno if i would call NS soft... I mean, its not like it was ever SUPER HARDCORE in any way to me. but it does seem like theres a lot more of this weird almost like forum drama going on. maybe im just a bit outta the loop but sometimes I look through a thread and theres just a lot of shitty highschool-esque drama between all these new people I have never heard of

thats one of the main reasons why I have sorta retired myself into the "once active, now lurking" members of this community. still love it, i just dont feel any desired to get involved in half the threads i see nowadays

Objectively, forum usage - more members who do not normally log in and post are doing so, even adjusting for the fact that the weather is getting colder.

Subjectively, we're on the forums every day and can see the shift in the discourse. Other members have mentioned the same. It's not "there" yet, there's still a lot of unnecessary dickishness for the sake of dickishness (as opposed to unavoidable dickishness that arises in the course of people arguing on the internet). But it is trending positive according to what WE want the place to be like. Or negative, I guess, if you just like being an asshole and trolling on the internet.

The real issue isn't about people posting N_ or F_. Its the 12 year old "trolls" who are just dumb bags of shit who make tighter guidelines on all of us. This leads to quality NSG content producers to stray away from their regular actions because they fear repercussions.


NS was never "hard", its just going from somewhat firm to soggy.


Also, Lady Gabber is literally just a continuation of the NSG SWJ internet conversion.
I called it originally when the first thread was made and this just reaffirms the joke (or is real? illuminati.)

No joke, sites from 4chan to Reddit to 9gag and even places like our cousin, bodybuilding forums, have seen increases in moderation and deletion of somewhat offensive material that was previously ok. It advanced to an uptake of female mods (which I'm 90% sure NS has done as well) and the creation of website "safe zones" for women (a la lady gabber) All has to do with the internet freedom bills as well; FBI/NSA want to prevent domestic and international crime


NS mods, if you're not actually secretly apart of this SJW/GGate thing, you sure are doing so subconsciously (most likley gov. brainwashing or hypnosis. Or immas is banging bishops dick off and got LG made. A la gamer gayt)

I never said ns was soft just that it was gegting wierd. Peoples attempts at trolling is the worst thing on here. Kids just trying to be cool. You could post a thread giving everyone on ns a free pair of skis or a your thoughts regarding a ski hero passing and kids will be like hur hur hur i gonna troll. Like most things there's a time and a place. If they get rid of shit like that NS will be a better place. I think laddy gabber and the stupid amount of hyle behind it is pointless but i dont really care. Do whatever you want. I think that the invetors cult and maybe even snowboard gabber make far mor sense as cult but again do whatever.

Theres a mix of over moderation sometimes but thats because there has to be a decent level these days if the goal is to make the forums readable. I didnt have an account on bere until i was 18 so i missed all the herp derp im 12 stuff. Really wouldnt mind that going. Mods would probably argue that i dabbled in my fair share but generally i just created stupid threads about pee fetishes while wasted instead of ruining good threads.

I dont want everything to be all proper and perfect but some people need to get some new material. And the"i saw somebody post this and jt was funny so im going to copy them because im 12 and want to be cool" shit is just lame.

It's decently fair to assume the majority of NS is rich and white (rich being a term used very loosely, you dont have to be "rich" to ski but definitely middle class) and usually kids whos parents buy them ski gear and passes etc are spoiled (i was for sure). I know some kids work hard for ski gear and passes etc but the majority of NSers parents pay for their skiing until theyre 18.

95%+ of everyone on here is a rich white dude. Sorry, but I'm going to generalize all day here. Newschoolers has about the same diverse nature as that of the NHL. There might be 10 or so Black guys, all of which are either A: Canadian, or B: come from as affluent a background as the rest of the rich white dudes here.

If you honestly care to prove me wrong, please do. I'd like to find out that this is a more diverse community than it actually is... but as of right now, I just don't see it.

Yeah but the kids aren't really rich if they have to ask mommy and daddy to buy them all their stuff. Yeah I agree you have to be pretty wealthy to ski most of the time... But I've been riding the same beat pairs on nine-lives for like 4 years now haha, i've never bought a season pass in my life and I pretty much only wear tall hoodies and t-shirt when I ski, getting snowpants for like 25 bucks at my home mountains ski swap. I guarantee you i'm not the only guy on here who isn't a rich white kid.

Lol that was my cover picture on facebook for like 2 year, I know skiing is a white sport, doesn't mean you have to be mega rich to ski. And i'm not rich, neither is my family. I guess i'm that 5% then


And no I don't want to prove you wrong homie, I really get that there are some spoiled kids on NS... I know a lot of them in real life, they go to Mt. Hood every summer, CO every winter break... new skis every year, etc... And once again I wasn't talking black VS white. I was talking about income not race.

Yeah skiing is predominantly a rich white dude sport, but the "rich" element is not the element that generally posts on Newschoolers. They're the guy in the Energy group upstairs from me who has nine houses and wants to talk about that cool trip he took to Chatter Creek last year over a glass of wine at an event while sporting his perfectly tailored $3000 blazer.

I'm not sure how this will be taken but it's an observation I've made.

I don't think NS is getting soft, I think it's overall tanking. Not in terms of ski related content but from the new members and NSG as a whole. And I think it started after the Olympics. The newer younger generation found out about freeskiing/park skiing because of its debut in Sochi. They found and joined NS and since then have plagued the site. All the dumb crap and trolling we find now started in the spring.

It's through NSG that I have realized how batshit retarded the younger generations are (like late 90's and on). I don't mean to label that on everyone who was born then or in the 2000's because there are some great younger members, but there are many who may as well be giving me cancer.
