Still on 10.6.8 on my machine too. It's a 2010 Mbp 13" core 2 duo with 4gb ram. Mavericks didn't seem to speed up these machines much, and from what I've seen and heard they take longer to start up and such. I assuming Yosemite only asks for more power?
As expected it's growing on me over time. Runs super smoothly, most third party apps seem to transition okay, and it seems to help with my battery life. Only dropped to 96% after taking notes and using the internet in class for 90 mins. I still don't love the flatness and cartooney icons but like iOS 7 it just takes some getting used to

I'm running the same thing as you and I feel like Yosemite is actually faster. I've only ran it for a couple hours but I'll check back after using it and let you know how it's going tomorrow. Its definitely a different look and has an ios7/8 feel to it

Everything's going flat and simple. It's the trend, from company logos to icons in your OS and whatever else people try and apply it to. Also does the new itunes remind anybody of the rhythm box and some other players for linux/ubuntu/other flavors. And actually, I edited my itunes icon to be red a long time ago, when it was still a cd with a green music note or whatever it was. I thought it'd look cooler.
If I upgraded to yosemite and wanted to go back, I should be able to install snow leopard from my install disk (from 2010) then update to 10.6.8 and refuse the mavericks update, correct?
running it on a shitty 2.4gHz dual core macbook pro with 8gb ram. awful battery. Yosemite seems to be a bit smoother speed wise and slightly better with battery conservation. also runs cooler.

H.ScorpioNo shame. Snow Leopard was my baby. I went straight from Snow Leopard -> Mavericks because Mavericks was decent compared to Lion/Mountain Lion.
The lions didn't give you anything special, really..
I personally love it. Everything is smoother and battery lasts longer. The only thing is with Handoff it will just open up the text or message but not have what you were actually typing.
If you like the 3D aspect of that look then don't upgrade. It's much flatter and more cartooney but you get used to it over time. Overall I think it's better, but it's like the upgrade from iOS 6 to iOS 7...super strange and kinda shitty at first but it grows on you
I haven't done too much digging, but the only issue I've come up is with iTunes. When I'm hooked up to my TV and try to play stuff full screen on iTunes it fills my laptop screen, not my TV. Worked fine before updating and I'm sure it's just something haven't tried yet, but I haven't figured it out yet.
Really considering the update, but don't want to get ahead of my macbook's abilities (early 2011, 13in, 2.3 i5, 8gm ram) and I'm always afraid of my abode products getting screwd up (although I have creative cloud now, so I'm sure if there are any problems they'll get resolved pretty quickly).

Any thoughts?
Don't have input on your computer's age issues but I made the swap and so far all of CC is working fine, all I have used are illustrator, premiere and photoshop though.

Never mind. Premier is crashing non stop now.... AAAARG! This school project may end up getting cut in iMovie
Did it last night and I think it's sick. The new Safari is so much more user friendly. I've converted to using Safari from Firefox. The new way bookmarks are managed is so much better and removes clutter from the task bar. I like how much more sleek it is.
B.AussieIs there anyway to downgrade to an older itunes version?
haha i feel kind of dumb now, why have i never thought of this?
apparently you can, at least on mavericks, not sure about yosemite, but you won't be able to use the app store if you do. really considering doing it, but i do every now and then use the app store, but maybe it wouldn't be a big deal
the only issue then would be getting my phone to sync with it, as I'm on iOS 7 now, but there were a lot of things i did like about iOS 6 better, mainly the music player. so i could downgrade that as well I'm pretty sure. bit of a hassle to do, but it would be nice.
NJurkiewiczSo finally updated. Haven't noticed considerable advantages yet, but it is rather overwhelming. We'll see how this turns out.
So just got a new computer and and the new OS is running rather smoothly. Right now I'm using safari and it seems like major imporvements over past versions of it. Is it worth switching back over to chrome you think? If not is there things like adblock and reddit enhancemnet suite on safari?

No need to answer that was really stupid i figured it all out. I am really enjoying safari though and the whole new operating system. Definitely improved performance.
