I just bought The Recruitment on iTunes today and was wondering what other people thought about it.

Personally, i had a tough time following the plot but the filming, editing and skiing were all fucking sick so it was really dope overall.

I haven't seen it yet, but really want to. I'm sure the skiing is on par with anything we've seen before. Not sure if I would dig the plot or not, but at least they are trying to do something different.

DAMN

That movie was fucking tight. The level of skiing was top tier and the story along with the skiing was good as fuck too.

Really fucking good. Stoked for what they get up to next year already. Pretty fresh concept and I enjoyed it, Leigh fucking killed the editing

I liked that it was different, and that there was a bit of a plot, but I felt like it suffered from the same problems that plagued "Into the Mind" - too much focus on cinematography instead of skiing and far too much slo-mo. There were maybe ten or fifteen minutes of skiing in a 45 minute video. I think a ski "movie" is a great concept but more skiing would have made the video far more engaging.

I will say, however, that the bits of skiing were banger, and unlike "Into the Mind," the shots were never obscured by CGI. The urban was sick, and the big mountain was infinitely better than what Level 1 served up in "Less." Seeing guys throw huge 180's and switch airs off cliffs got me pretty fucking stoked.

That may all have sounded overly negative, but I stil enjoyed most of what I saw. It's not my favorite movie of all time, but props to Super Proof for trying something different. Stoked to see what's next.

Some people are going to love it. Some people are going to hate it. It's very different, very weird, but in my opinion very cool. The cinematography and the editing are right on point. There some sick skiing from everyone. And C-Van had (in my opinon) one of the sickest sets of urban shots of the year (both ways rodeo 4 redirect).

Agreed. Too much 'plot' and not nearly enough skiing.

Compared to 'Days of My Youth' I was more impressed by the shots, and preferred an actual story line than the classic "Skiing is so fun", nostalgia vibe.

(note: shots - The skiing in DoMY was insane, but often I didn't feel the way it was filmed, or the mood and music gave it the intensity it deserved, The Recruitment was intense, anticipation to the max for eery bit of skiing)

Awesome skiing, pretty good filming, the story is not bad but you can see its weak points. I figured there would more acting and whatnot then a regular ski movie. Max Hill, Leigh Powis and Sean Pettit all had banger shots but i figured since all 3 of them seemed to be pushing the hype of the movie the most that they would have had a lot more shots. Dont get me wrong their shots were crazy and I prefer quality over quantity but Max and Leigh had very few clips and honestly I bought the movie to see them ski. Dont get me wrong I'm a fan of everyone else in the movie but I was expecting to see more skiing from Max and Leigh, I assume I'm not the only one who feels this way. You can probably tell I'm bummed about that but don't be turned off from this. It's worth watching even though there is around 15min of skiing in a 45min film. It's a good piece to watch if you're into films, but I do think after you watch it you'll agree with me. Who knows maybe I expected too much after all the hype but you'll have to just see for yourself.

Giving it 9.9/10, jusssst because the shots of Leigh attempting dub wall ride again, and got the landed shot. Haha stupid I know but kinda bugged me. Overall I loved the film and it kept me interested visually and plot-wise.

I agree! Josh Stack was really killing it. I hope too see a lot more Sean Petit next year though. I know he was injured, but a banger segment from him too could make next years movie so sick.

Definitely a "love it or hate it" kind of film. I was at the World Premier at the Red Bull office in Toronto (#claim) and there were some negative comments in the background. Of course no one would actually speak up about it but a lot of them came from the mass amount of snowboarders in the crowd (welcome to the snow industry in Toronto).

Personally I thought it was sick. Great filming and editing but as for the plotline, it felt as if I watched a super extended teaser for another movie.

But the movie was 45 minutes long. They easily could have made it 25 and have it be nearly all skiing but that wouldn't have been their style. I LOVED how they made a storyline and wove it into the skiing.

I also love how the film is getting hate. That's what they wanted. They did something different so obviously some people wouldn't like it.

Game changer. It might not have been 'perfect' to some of your standards, but what they did was really impressive. The cinematography was on another level and they actually put together a plot that was easy to follow with no dialogue. Wellllll worth my $10. A beautiful piece of cinematic skiing. I loved it. Big big ups to that whole crew. It inspired me as a filmmaker.

I loved it all except the ending. I think it fell flat. The last line was supper cheesy as well. They all seemed way to happy for just being kidnapped.

loved it, skiing was on point (corey killed it big time!). my only complaint was I thought the section with joe, callum, mike and josh driving around went on for a little too long.

Other than that I loved it, thought the concept was sick, and pretty well executed, like I said the skiing was top notch, cinematography was sick aswell. REALLY REALLY LIKED THIS ONE.

Movie was sick. Super sick editing. Skiing was a B grade. Some sick but repetitive shots..

A lot of the skiing was better than B grade. Other shots weren't so great or were repetitive which held it back overall. Inconsistency has been an issue with a lot of this years movies.

Exactly. But I give them big kudos for doing something different in an era where most of the established film companies release the same formula year after year.

Completely agreed and i think that's what super proof aimed for. The "extended teaser" kind of movie really got me stoked for the future movies.

I thought the story/plot thing was really unnecessary. I was disappointed at the length of many of the segments I wish more effort would have gone into making a great ski flick and not artsty BS. Some of the skiing was top notch

I could see how people could like the film, but i couldnt stand it. Thought it was overdone, shitty plot and i lost interest multiple times throughout the movie. With that being said corey vanular and josh stack absolutely slayed but def not worth buying or renting in my opinion, think there is potential from this crew in years to come tho!

100% agree, I think some folks here on NS are confused between what
cinematography is and what over the top IMO hipster editing is. The story was dragged on and it could have been cut down to just a few minutes long and still would have gotten the point across. The skiing was good but there was very little of it.

I am in the same boat. Hopefully for their next film they cut down on the story and amp up the skiing. I think Valhalla was the perfect mix.

I fucking loved it. I was into it from beginning to end... The music and editing were tight the skiing was awesome. I loved the shot that just had the sound of skiing - you can't even hear that when it's you skiing !

and yeah, so powis is a bit precious (He has face tattoos ! not trying to be mean..)
But overall, I think that it was an amazing first effort. kind of almost can't wait to watch it again.

I bought the movie, was very excited to watch it. The cinematography was great as well as some of the skiing shots. However, skiing is for lulz, thought it was trying to be a bit to edgy. Also some issues with the plot line.... I know most skiers are a little on the small side as far as stature goes but how did Sean Pettit single handedly kidnap 6 or so other people? Always been a fan of Sean's skiing, but that may be indeed the most impressive feat i've seen out of him or anyone. I'm pretty sure those guys were sitting around the table for like 23 days or some shit. Thats definitely a new record for resilience as far as the human body goes.

Anyway it looked like they had a great time making it, just wasn't for me.
