HalfandHalfany 7,75"-8" deck, independent, reds, and some bones
DrZoidberg8" or wider. And yes, I've tried 7.5"s, 7.8"s and such for years. Riding wider boards is way better, unless you really want to land that quad kickflip. I like 8.25", and I probably won't ever go skinnier again. And I have small feet.
Bearings don't matter as long as they're lubricated and clean. Spacers do matter, contrary to popular belief and practice. That being said, you won't notice if you're new. Don't crank the nuts on the axels without spacers. The wheel needs wiggle room without proper spacing.
Trucks, whatever. You won't have a preference if you're new. Don't be the noob who's got his cranked so hard that you can't turn. It's much harder to skate when your board won't turn. Can't go wrong with indys. I like ventures.
Wheels; again, whatever. I like bones, but there's plenty of other good ones. 100a. If you need soft wheels bones ATFs are nice. They actually slide nicely for being softer. Otherwise soft wheels skate oddly, if you ask me. Great for cruising around though. I try and fit as big as I can, 56mm bones SPFs currently.
