Scanning prints

I have a scanner, pretty basic canon printer scanner combo. I also have an hp photosmart scanner combo. Which in the case of using either of these, I would probably go with that one. But I was wondering what you guys used instead of using business scanners to scan your prints to your computer.

and just in case you were wondering, no i do not want to buy a photo scanner. What i do want, is ideas on places that have them or something.

If you shoot 35mm, get a Plustek.
If you shoot all kinds of things, get a HP Flatbed with special photo ability.
Don't scan often? Let a local lab do it.

Scanning from prints with a simple scanner is killing any form of quality.

Amanda, do you mean scanning actual prints? like, you developed negatives, made prints with an enlarger and now want to scan those prints themselves?

Don't do that. It's not going to be as good as scanning the negatives themselves at all, really.

If you are speaking of scanning the negs themselves, you really have one option here that I see.. like Lawrence said, take them to a lab if you have one available within reasonable proximity and have them scan them for you. This will be the best option. You may also mail them out to a lab

As for your printer/scanner that you speak of, I have one like it, I'm pretty sure. It's no good for scanning negatives and it will be more of a hassle than anything.
