Hey NS, Slvsh is a freeski matchup league similar to what Stept's Skate on Snow was. We've filmed 12 games so far. The first game, Noah Morrison vs Noah Wallace, drops tomorrow, October 14th, on http://www.slvsh.com

I dont know, this isnt a hill i want to die on, it just seems to me that some clarification is needed because I thought as long as you got back to switch you were fine, kind of like how when there was a game at Whistler blackcomb, someone called a tree stall to switch, and one guy went straight up and down, while the other did a 360 back down to end up going switch so i thought this was the same


A SKATE purist, and in turn a SLVSH one as well, would not count the trick you just mentioned or the one from the game we are discussing now. It would be a letter.

I think in this case the "to switch" part of the call implies that you need to pretzel out. I can't say for sure because I've never done it but I'm assuming that doing a 360 to go back down switch off a tree isn't that much easier than spinning 90 the opposite direction back to switch, thats why there wasn't a letter on that call

The object of the game is to throw a trick that the other player needs to imitate. Imagine if you’re playing HORSE (the true origin) and you made a shot, someone else walked to an area remotely distant from the goal but not where you were standing, sunk it and said “well the shot was about as difficult and they were both within the arc so...” like nah they would get handed a letter.

That game was good. Both of them getting each others tricks with ease. Iffy last call, I probably wouldn't have counted Anti's but that's up to the judge!

I'm confused about the "180. blender sw lip on" call ( Siver Voll vs. Colby Stevenson 3:42). Anyone willing to enlighten me pls? In my understanding a blender is when you look over the opposite shoulder then you're spinning direction.Colby looked over his left shoulder and spun to the left (Siver same to the right). Wouldn't this be like you do a sw lip naturaly?

technically, what you are saying is correct. I guess the call was just implying the way you spin the first 180 such that you have to change shoulders will on the deck of the butter pad. an actual blender sw lip would be weird for sure

if games were to be called as rigorously as you are asking, you would have to say "switch 7, not hitting the ground in between the initial spin and final rotation" when you wanna call a f***** sw 7 on a single jump

Tbh I had a similar thought but he landed 90 either way.

yeah so generally saying 'to switch' means the least rotations you can do to get there. it can make a huge difference depending on the trick;

4 on to switch: you just have to tap the rail and keep spinning, basically doing a 5 with a rail tap at the end
450 on pretz 270 out: you have to land with enough rail left, lock, stop your rotation, spin 270 out the other way.
both are landing switch, but pretty different tricks. same argument applies for a switch 450 on, but in that cause going to switch (not 270 out) is harder cause you have to land and lock with your toe edge

No, mercy rule/trivia crack is only enforced on the first setter’s first turn. So if the person who won RPS scores 3 letters on the loser during that first turn, the set swaps. In both of these games neither first setter made it that far, it was the second setter scoring more than 3 letters which is why no trivia crack.

It’s like playing horse with basketball, if somebody hits a shot nothing but net from the 3 like and you go up and hit a bank shot but still make it, you get a letter. Even though it went in you didn’t do it how the person who has the set said to do it. Same thing here, yeah he landed switch but he did a front 2 out which is an entirely different trick than a 2 to switch.

I'm risking it posting in the thread before I watched the game, but is there any reason why we can't fullscreen videos on the SLVSH website? Gotta truly immerse myself in the game you know, are the ad monetization numbers better for SLVSH if we all watch on Youtube? Might be a little pedantic but I want every fraction of possible advertising revenue going back to the guys that deserve it like Walker and Lasser instead of Google

I wish they still used their own video player on the website too, now i can't watch slvsh games in school cus the youtube vids are blocked.

What is the point of shitting on slvsh in a completely unconstructive way like this? 8 pros have got together to produce what will probably be around an hour and a half of sick free content.

What exactly do you expect to happen, joss to read this and think ‘shit we gotta wrap up and move to whistler to finish the contest or else parkranger is gonna be grumpy’ It’s a small early season park, don’t watch it if you want a massive variety in features

Probably because they get an extra video view from people who start watching on their website then want full screen so go to youtube to watch it. More $$$.

Also great game. Max Moffat is sick.

Agreed! I think that's the key when being a ref. Whether you're loose or strict, being consistent with your calls for both skiers is huge.

Sick AF game, so many awesome tricks thrown. Joona went in and Antti seemed to miss some things you'd imagine him to get so was on defence a lot. Johan called really well although something about is reffing style was a bit off to me idk... last trick from Joona was savage, thought he may have tried something else after a while... but was dope when he got it. Was rooting for Colby v Antti in the final tho, will still be wild. Great cup.

I'm ok with him calling the same trick 4x in a row until he got it. I think Antti got away with enough coming off early on rails on his set (not on defence) and should have lost the game earlier.
