I'm taking a gap year off of college for the sole purpose of skiing. I plan on moving to Park City due to my love for Alta, Snowbird, Canyons, PCMR. I was wondering if anyone could assist me or point me in the right direction of where to find available rooms, aparments for rent, or really anything because I'm having a hard time finding places to live. All help is much appreciated!
Lots of people use either craigslist, ksl.com, or parkrecord.com. Sometimes I see people posting on NS looking for roommates as well. But it can be tough to find places in PC that aren't insanely expensive AND are year long rentals. When I was looking I had a lot of people tell me they were trying to rent their place out spring through fall, then they want to triple the price to rent to tourists during ski season. PC is beautiful and safe and it's sick to be so close the PCMR and the Canyons, but if you're interested in also skiing LCC/BCC often you might be happier in SLC. It's a pain to drive from PC all the way around and up to the cottonwood resorts when Guardsman Pass is closed. SLC is also wayyyy cheaper, easier to find housing, it's more convenient overall, and youre still only about 25 mins to PCMR. If you go the SLC route I'd suggest looking in the Sugarhouse area if you wanna be near tons of other college aged skier kids and also be pretty centrally located to all the resorts.
As mentioned above, if you are here to ski LCC and BCC, living in Park City is most likely not for you. In my case, I do ski Alta and the Bird often, but only when there is fresh snow, as the drive is about 40-50 minutes and can be a pain. The rest of the time I stay in PC and drive less than 5 minutes to three different resorts, and you CAN NOT beat that. Especially when PCMR has such an amazing park, DV has great tree skiing and stays relatively untouched, and the Cans has a little of everything, plus great BC access.
Basically, if you want to ski BCC/LCC, have cheaper rent, and more young people around you, Salt Lake and probably more specifically Cottonwood Heights is where you want to be. But if you want to ski as much as physically possible, with less concern for what is the "best/steepest/gnarliest/most extreme mountain in utah" you can not beat Park City as its actually feasible to go take even just one run when you live a few minutes from the resort.
Bonus... Park City kicks ass in the winter with everyone in town to party and shred and in the summer it's super quiet and relaxing. You get the best of both worlds, in my mind.
