Why Hate?

Why do people hate on everything so much? For example comp skiers get a lot of hate because people think their style is "robotic" and its different from what they consider cool. Goepper chooses to attempt super technical tricks while Casabon chooses to make his tricks look amazingly stylish. Why do people hate in a sport that is completely based around the freedom to make it whatever you want?

I may be wrong but I think a lot of it is simply that most of the stuff the competion guys are doing is way out of the league of most of ns. So because they have no chance of getting to that level they console them selves by sayin the style sucks ect. I may be completly wrong but I really think most of ns has more affiliation to the video skiers as they can one day see them selves doing that.

I think it all comes down to the fact that as soon as you have open discussion... there is dissenting opinion. Part of freedom is disagreement, and part of having a place where everyone can speak their minds is those opinions being shared.

There is nowhere in life where people agree on everything. Especially in creativity... in Art there's people who love and hate things... and you don't get strong emotion without both.

I do agree that it gets taken too far at times, but I think its a good thing to have healthy debate. The one thing I don't like is when people just say something is shit without a good reason/argument to back it up. That is purely negative.

Most of the hate on NS is done by 13 year olds who think Henrik is the best thing to happen to skiing ever. People are allowed to have their opinion which is what makes our sport great. It's also part of confidence reassurance. A lot of skiers hate on other skiers hucking because they can't huck themselves, so they tell them selves "well atleast my stuff is stylish".

It's an insecurity issue. Those who lack style and hate on those with mad style probably wish they had more. Those who lack skill and hate on people like goepper probably wish they could throw down like that. That's my take on it at least. Do people actually have a real reason to hate on style/ technicality/ park/ powder/ snowboarding etc.? Most likely they do not have a valid reason but people will hate out of jealousy and ignorance. It isn't like those with style are taking over skiing. And those who ski very technically aren't taking it over either. Skiing needs a balance of both to move forward in my opinion.

Also, this hate comes from average people. Very rarely do I see pros hating on other pros over this stuff.

One thing I've never understood is the hate on snowboarders. I just don't get it there all doing something they like just on a different riding platform. We both have similar tricks just different grabs so why can't we just respect each other

I think the most valid thing snowboarders have on skiers is the whole Alta thing and the fact that there are generally more ski gapers than snowboard gapers. That's where a lot of the hate comes from, in my perspective at least. I can't think of a reason why the general ski community should hate snowboarders though...

I've heard business arguments like snowboarding takes away from ski business and vice versa. I've bought snowboard brand outerwear and I know snowboarders who love armada's outerwear. Of course, these are just specific examples and probably aren't extremely common and don't prove much of anything but it happens. Other than those in the industry though, is this really going to affect you so much that you need to hate the other sport? Probably not.

When you look at freeskiing and freestyle snowboarding though, there's no real reason to hate. We all love the mountain, we all love park or pow, we all have the same ideal lifestyle, etc. The only difference is how we go about getting down the mountain.

I'd say because comp skiing/technical tricks are getting too played out for some people. Style is always new and changes every couple months or so.

I agree 100% we are all just trying to have fun doing what we love. Just because some express it on the mountain in a different way, doesn't make anyone more or less than anyone else. It's disappointing to see people hating on the same kind of people over the dumbest things. It's preference. I don't like park a whole lot because I would rather be in the woods or dropping cliffs, but I know people just on NS who would go ballistic even though I LOVE watching it more than anything.

I'd say all the hate is about 90% message board BS and 10% actually on the snow. A lot of people like to type but won't say a word in person.

Its as simple as that.

In real life no one's gonna run up to goepper and tell him "Why did you X on the rail over there? Don't, its ugly."
But if he's willing to film, edit and upload media for the whole internet to see, you bet I'm gonna give input, whether its positive or negative.

There's a huge difference between negative input and hate. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on whether something is considered "good" but even then I think skiers should at least respect each other. Hate implies no respect.

Because NSers only like baggy and steezy skiers.

They're also allowed their own opinions but some are still assholes indirectly to specific skiers *cough* goepper *cough*

Seriously stop the hate, at least comp skiers are getting skiing on TV and making free skiing more recognized

This is me. I rationalize that technical park rail skiing is super hard and super cool because I'm good at it.

On the other hand, I often (internally) hate on doubles and triples because I can't do doubles or triples.

I think it's human nature to be a hater. It's all good though!

For me, it had nothing to do with jealousy or envy. I dislike competition skiing because I think competition is lame and it sucks the life out of something that is meant to be enjoyed. That is my own opinion, one that I've come to through experience. I dont hate on comp riders, but then again when I see someone wind up for their triple 1440 wildness 25 feet before the jump starts, it kind of makes my life hurt.
