Sound VS No Sound

I have seen an overall trend in ski edits that the sound is completely canceled and only music is heard in the background. Being a skater I love to hear the sound of the skis slamming on rails and carving of lips of jumps. What do you think?

I prefer a predominant music sound, but the sound of skis hitting snow in the background is a cool sound

sound for sure. Not a fan of when it is overdone/obviously edited in, like when a skier hits an urban rail and it vibrates like a gong for 10 seconds

A mix of music and raw noise is good, but just the raw noise used in moderation is always good too

I agree, but all I can think of is this one edit from a year or two ago where someone edited in a whoosh noice on every trick haha.

I put the blame on filmers who don't want to put down the money for a quality mic. Most built-in mics on cameras have the quality of a pirated cheetah girls album in Ukraine.

Pretty sure its from the mic attached to the camera. The sound of the features is from a bit far away and otherwise you would hear other sounds like the clothing moving too.

My mic on my t3i is not awful but its true i would rather put 150 or 200 down on something else..

Sound so much , pretty much shows the quality of a edit , awesome "stomping" sounds , especially when synced with music give a good feel to the edit

I don't know if it's just me, but i absolutely LOVE the sound of skis and poles clacking together in mid-air. Like when someone hucks a double or something.

You have a point though! They can still put music then pause a while to highlight the sound of the skis anyway!

For those wondering about Khai's Jib Line from Less...


I prefer sounds in an edit as apposed to no sounds. The sounds in Brady and Mike's "Push to Shove" were perfect. Stept also does great work with sounds I mean who doesn't love a good ramped slow mo?
