Replying to New Contest Concept
We need more creativity in ski competitions. I was watching a couple ski edits and skate contests and had an idea. Every park tries to have the most pristine jumps for contests so that the only variable is the athlete. Well what if we change that?
Take a long trail and pump out a shit ton of snow. Have the groomers make random piles of snow in different shapes and sizes throughout the run, leaving the piles in a chunky, unfinished fashion. Competitors then have 1 or 2 days to work on the course. They can carve out or build as many features as they want, or just spend the time focusing on one featuring and making it perfect for themselves. The field of competitors is also given a selection of rails and random crap to use how they wish. They are given shovels only. Any grooming will be done by stomping and speed checking. Maybe its a team contest and they work with a partner/sponsor team? or maybe its a video contest and they have their filmer help? After the build period is complete the competitors use their features and others to put down the best line or the best video.
So its kind of like backcountry jump building meets creative and sketchy urban features. Transworld hosts a video contest every year where skaters have a week in a warehouse to make a dope edit and its fucking awesome. What do you guys think?
