Sammy Carlson has been a mainstay in the freeskiing world since he won his first X Games medal the year before graduating high school. Now 25, he's choosing to give up FIS-level competition to focus on a new two-year film project.

the trailer to this movie is one of the most insane things to have ever been produced in skiing.

many of these "artsy" elaborate, national geographic style professional movies (Sherpas for example) have amazing filming but a strong disconnect between the cinematographers and athletes..

what Sammy did here was ski to his full potential, non-stop charging like Candide, and work alongside Drew and filmers he's close with to makes sure the shots perfectly capture his level of riding. this is how you correctly produce an action sports film and have it be a genuine cinematic experience

I'm really stoked to see this film. Sammy is practically unrivaled and those shots are insane. But can we get away from EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC? I can't count how many times I've seen this exact trailer now throughout all action sports and Hollywood with just different shots. It's paint by numbers. Regardless, I will watch it, no question. Sammy's a beast.

Funny, I feel the complete opposite. I'm not a huge Sherpas fan either, but while Sammy's level of skiing is phenomenal the filming looks solid, editing is where a film truly gets its soul. And this one is just super-epic music (what the fuck else is new) to cool stunts. BORING

The only people coming close to making something with a soul in this industry are snowboard film companies.

The only people coming close to making something with a soul in this industry are snowboard film companies.


Putting good music to phenomenal skiing is what people want to see and hear. If you read the Less. reviews the main thing people didn't like about it was the soundtrack. If you put a damn good song with damn good skiing, that's when the hair stands up on your arms.

Snowboard film companies have been in right there for a while now I agree.

unfortunately wrote that post preemptively without watching this new trailer since I assumed it was going to be the same/ very similar to the one made exclusively for sponsors a few months ago. that video didn't have nearly as many cut shots and overly dramatic editing although the song was the same.

kinda bummed when i saw this new one and it's cut to a stock "epic" formula just like everything else

I hope for Sammy's sake they put some soul in the movie. That was my exact problem with the Wallisch project. Yes, it was banger, but it has no lasting effect because I didn't get to know the main character. Ski movies need a plot and purpose outside of 300fps slow-mo dubs. If this combines his outlook on skiing and the world, some of his past tribulations, and his fucking incredible all around skill as a skier it will make for a legendary movie. Sammy's RealSki video was perfect for its purpose, but if this movie is just a longer cut of that it will really be a shame. I want a "Few Words" with Sammy.

That's pretty much the least creative approach you could possibly have. Sammy has a ridiculous work ethic and creative approach. The movie should reflect that. The trailer did not.

I'm just saying I want the music to match the skiing. I'm not saying that good music makes good skiing.

The trailer, was short and to the point which leaves you wanting more. You know you are going to see it regardless of the trailer.

He has an entie season left to stack shots and has already a trailer which makes me scream no fucking way I would seriously pay $12.00 to watch this film. Looks banger.

Hopefully just isn't amazing skiing but also a sick storyline.

Scott, I'm watching DOMY now and I feel like it is a cookie cutter example of "EPIC". Everyone the whole movie keeps repeating how epic it would be to ski this, to hit that, and how all time the conditions are. The intro to the movie has the cliche "epic" music track to it as well, along with some of the segments. In a lot of other MSP movies, I feel like a lot of segments are going for the "epic" feel in terms of cinematography, narration, and music as well.

Not saying there's anything wrong with any of this, I like any sort of ski movie cinematic style, but I thought I'd just point it out. Maybe it's just my perspective, who knows. Either way, I'm a huge MSP fan, been buying the movies for years now. I just don't understand the logic I guess.

Stoked for the Sammy C project though. Looks insane.
