unknowndeaththere's so much good skiing (big ups to all of the skiers, you guys fucking KILLED it), and it's all ruined by being in a Level 1 movie.
there are so many fucking parts. I guess nobody over there has ever heard of guest shots before, or the sponsors are paying big bucks for their riders to have their own parts. Banks and Logan (just to pick on two) did not deserve their own intros and songs. Their shots could have easily been worked into someone else's part, or thrown in some "friends" section, significantly improving the flow of the movie.
None of the parts have any progression either. None of the songs have any buildup or finale to highlight any crazy tricks, and so most of the parts just seem like sort of a flat constant "this is kind of impressive." instead of starting with a banger, sprinkled with really great stuff throughout, and then with some sort of coda at the end that blows you away.
The music supervision is awful. As I said, none of the songs have any buildup or progression, creating a real lack of excitement in the parts as they go along. Also, they just suck. The song from Magnus' part might be the only song worth listening to or downloading in the whole movie (or any level 1 production for the last 4 years)
After 15 years, nobody at level 1 can use a fisheye yet. The stuff that I assume Shane McFalls filmed of Will Wesson in Japan is the only proper fisheye footage in the movie. Everything else either has some weird pan at the end or is just wrong. (Sig's shot on the blue ball??? So damn close. That pan to the snow at the end ruined it. LSM's nollie 360 over the bench? You can't even see the bench by the end of the shot, which is the whole reason people film fisheye.) I mean for god's sake, "fisheye" is one of the words in the collage at the beginning. (Which also includes "derp," "shiba inu," and "ermagherd." Seriously?)
Once again, I want to reiterate that the skiing was AMAZING. Some of the stuff really blew me away and was stuff I have wanted to see in skiing for a long time. The filming was mediocre at best, though, and the editing and included processes were bad.
Ric.Your a mogul skier fuck youI know dude moguls skiers are assholes, how dare they be excited about skiing
opinions man. sigs song and his part are probably my favorite in the movie.
BKDamn bro... you sound like such a fisheye expert.
unknowndeathalright, if you're going to mock me, why don't you address where I'm wrong, mr. co-editor of "Less?"
The whole reason most people film fisheye is to make stuff look bigger, more impressive, and get closer to the action, making it take up more of the frame while still capturing the whole shot. In that shot of LSM in particular, the angle starts close to the feature, and then as the shot progresses, the camera gets pulled away and above, bringing the bench all the way almost out of the frame and making it look pretty small. You can't see the feature all the way through the trick, and there's no "wow, that was huge" effect as he rides away. This is the same for a lot of the fisheye shots throughout the movie. There's a shot from LSM I think on a wall, shot from above, that is disorienting and makes the feature look small. In very few of the fisheye shots does the subject move from one side of the frame, across to the other, either. Again, this not only usually allows for at least most of the feature to be in the shot at once, but it makes for a dynamic and interesting composition.
That's not to say there are no proper fisheye shots, (though I guess I did say that in my first post) but a lot of them are pretty wonky.

EvanMeyerMaybe you weren't paying attention but banks and logan had some real sick shots in there. I dont get what you're all butt hurt about I thought it flowed exceptionally well for being a level 1 movie.

ryan_misturDisappointing.
HENRYHIBBELNshitty music like wutang and mobb deep.......
ryan_misturDisappointing.
thedawgman lsm really has something goin, his skiing is entirely his own
NoSkillsCrewLSM, Sig, Shay, Griz, Logan, Magnus, Adams, and Khai are amazing. BRING BACK TSP!
unknowndeaththis is interesting.
john18061806Why was the soundtrack delorme's segment a bunch of airplane noises?
ski0Magnus and LSM killed it. Duncan adams and khai also really impressed me.
I thought the editing and filming was below level 1's standards. I thought the movie had a lot of short and dull segments. No-one had the type of banger all-around segment I buy level 1 movies for.
unknowndeathLSM's nollie 360 over the bench?
HENRYHIBBELNI really liked it... Almost more than sunny, I feel like half of ns is hating on it because the soundtrack wasn't all shitty music like wutang and mobb deep....... The soundtrack was great, well filmed/edited and it had a great chill end segment
dwatson012Since when does a nollie 360 over a bench belong in any ski movie? Let alone Level 1? I've been a loyal supporter of Level 1 for so many years, I literally have watched High Five and Shanghai Six hundreds of times (like many of you) and Refresh could be my favorite ski film ever, but man I am so disappointed about this movie.
I get the try "Less" thing and maybe I am too old for where skiing is now and just don't see it. I should have read into what the movie was really about before buying it just because it's Level 1's new movie, as I always do. There are so many great skiers in there and I loved a handful of the segments (strenio, mcchesney, berman, delorme, graner, krepla, wesson, wiley, banks) but I can't help venting a bit on here. I don't pretend to be even close to these skiers' levels by any means and I do respect these new styles but I'm curious to see everyone's opinion? Especially the fans who've been watching Level 1 for the past decade?
To be honest I can't believe I'm criticizing a Level 1 movie but I really am curious to see what everyone thinks
Hughesyou don't actually give any reason for disliking the movie...
