Jon just posted on his FB: "Its time to get back to what I love! Full freestyle comeback this winter at age 32 after an injury might sound like I bad idea, but I just miss chilling upside down in the air to much to care about that! Lets do this!" What do you guys think?
N.L.id like to see jon give something back to the ski industry... sure he hosted events, but that was for exposure and profit as well, then to have gates? involved instead of focusing on the sport that made him anything at all... he should be supporting the industry that paid him money that other kids actually needed.. the next generation of skiing needs less vacuums.
comeback? dude is the original gaper. he doesnt need backers, or sponsors, same as henrick or hatviet, their parents could buy the newschool skiing industry for fun... its not an unfair advantage, you cant buy style
Jon has boss style.. go back and watch his segment in 1242.. dumb ass hater kid..
lol, i watched simon win dew tour at breck with a fourth run due to weather... all other competitors had three runs on the same day...
i could dig up more...
obviously everyone butthurt by my comment needs an apology. im sorry i have an opinion. jon is a sick skier, whether pow, park or gates and i fully respect him.
it does seem like from his videos he wants to return to competing against little kids... im saying hes got nothing to prove! he doesnt need to bet $50,000 that he can beat others...like he did in the race game, and is now returning to take sponsor money off the table for poor kids...
his family could buy a resort. or create a facility to make skiing greater, like his events in the past. his brother has skied his entire life in the gates and drives a 100,000 porsche for fun
N.L.jon olsson and simon dumont won their own events...
Jon won the Jon Olsson Invitational once. In 2006. With the Kangaroo Flip (1st time it was performed in front of an audience).
After that he has never managed hit the podium in his own comp.
When I was in the film jury for JOSS in 2009 we voted him 2nd last, if it makes you feel any better...

Well, a lot of skiers compared to Jon are just kids at this point. And, if you have not noticed, Jon is extremely competitive and he thrives on it.
You are looking at this the wrong way. Jon's blog generates hundreds of thousands of unique views, what is wrong with more publicity for freeskiing? Who said this will stop his events? Who said this is taking away sponsorship money?
On a side note, national team salaries for skiing over in Europe are usually six figures, so his brother driving that Porsche is not an anomaly.
Great to see a legend continue. Individuals such as Jon, Candide, Pollard, Hatveit and others deserve respect, and despite their age, bring something to the skiing landscape.
Jon is the fucking man. I am very stoked to hear this. As far as him giving back to the community, I'm not sure if you've heard but there was a Team Newschoolers at the last JOSS, it was voted on by our community. I'd say that's giving back about as directly as it gets. He created the idea because he wanted to give some lesser-known guys a chance to compete at a really high level against the worlds best comp and film skiers.
He's honestly such a humble and kind guy when you meet him too, it caught me off guard, he was just so down to earth. I didn't know what to expect having seen many of his video blogs and whatnot, the lavish lifestyle made me have preconceived notions of what he'd be like, all of which were completely shattered instantly upon meeting him.
I was lucky enough to be involved with said team and Jon was the most hospitable guy the whole time. He went way out of his way to make our ragtag group of JOSS noobs feel right at home. He often brought by cases of Red Bull, Water and arranged to have generators and lights delivered wherever we needed them. Not to mention the parties.........yea. We had fun.

the only person that sounds butthurt is you. Its a very envious, jealous butthurt, though.
hes not going to take sponsor money off the table, lol. since the dudes rich enough "that his family could by a ski resort (I highly doubt that), you really think hes going to sign a contract? get your head out of your jealous ass.
This "his families too rich" point is dumb, too. lots of families in the ski world are wealthy, especially kids that compete. Training and Travel expenses are not cheap, ya know.
N.L.he doesnt need to bet $50,000 that he can beat others
It was 50 000 Swedish kronor, which is about 7000 USD. A token sum for a guy who drives super cars (that he payed for through hard fucking work).
On my main note, though:
I'm so stoked that Jon is back! I can't wait to see what he will bring to the table in terms of either technicality or style. We know that he still has the dub 10s on lock!
N.L.and is now returning to take sponsor money off the table for poor kids...
I doubt the sponsorship money that Jon gets would go to someone else if he wasn't skiing. He has some type of partial ownership in most of his sponsor companies (not sure if he has part of Head but he easily could be), and I don't think Audi is going to go sponsor some 'poor kid' if Jon decides to retire.
Jon has brought so much money and exposure to freeskiing at a time that you probably weren't even out of ski school. He made his money on his own, the same way people like Dumont did, by being a smart businessman and getting involved in companies. Jon coming back can only be a good thing because it will only create more publicity and he mentioned about brining back JOSS for next year. He is one of the original legends of the sport, so quit hating on him just because he has done well with his life. He is living the dream that almost everyone on NS wants: he was able to make a super successful career out of skiing, on his own, and now has the ability to do what he wants to.

yeah i was really confused. he was one of my favorite skiers for so long and it's cool that he got into racing after park but i was like, why didn't he ever go big mountain??

Wow dude... He's a legend. He's given SO much to the ski industry, and given so much to kids, that like him, didn't come from a bunch of money to send them places. He gave Tom a chance when 4frnt wouldn't even give him fresh skis... even after he was invited to JOI. JOI and JOSS were groundbreaking events, gave rise to other legends like PK Hunder, big ups for Sig Tveit and plenty of other guys.
Flashback to one of my favorite segments ever. My VHS copy of Propaganda almost wore out:
Nah Jon is nog Big Mountain guy..
I'm stoked and stoked for him to choose to get back into freestyle.. Maybe his racing comeback was not as epic as whe or he hoped to, but it was more than I thought that was possible, there are so much guys racing its crazy he got that far..
Also to the guys who hate on Jon, he really made some risky moves while doing a lot for freeskiing..I was once told he was almost bankrupt at one time and still he kept going..
Lets hope he just enjoys this season and keeps doing what he loves and maybe thats not just skiing but also organising things like JOSS..
Just like Tanner he is one of the SKIBOSSES of freeskiing..
Cant wait for his videoblog to start and see what his plans are for this winter..
32 is pretty dusty for chillin upside down, but if anyone can do it damn sure it's Jon. Hell, he'll probably just go back to being the best in the game within like 2 weeks.
I just hope he changes his clothes, cus his skiiiing turned to shit once he got on JLindeberg and all those fashion like companies......he was my favvvvvvv from 2001-2004, hope he gets back to the awesome skier he was....
