Life/High School problems...

Hey guys, I've been feeling pretty shitty lately, and I wanted to vent to you guys about this. I know this will likely be taken as a joke, but please try to be serious.

I'm currently a freshman in high school. I look around and it looks like my social life totally tanked.

Not quite sure what happened, in 7th grade I had a lot of friends (and got middle school chicas), in 8th I still had a decent amount (this year was the year that I basically had no girl friends) and currently in 9th I feel like I only have a couple friends that I am close with, and hardly any girls that I am friends with and I feel kind of worthless.

Maybe my self confidence plummeted or something. Please offer some advice to a kid that generally feels down in the dumps right now :(

Do a sport or join a club or just sit next to a few new people at lunch. It's not that hard to get to know people when you're in a confined space with them for 6 hours a day.

Take it as you want but the biggest issue is you cant rely on outside sources for happiness. Once you can be truly happy by yourself, than everything else will fall into place. This is coming from someone who struggled with depression and suicide for a better part of the last 12 years. If you cant be happy alone, no one or no thing is going to make you happy. People come and go, girls come and go, but you cant let every little incident bring you down, it makes for a shitty long life.

High school seems like a big deal now but it really isn't. Once you get out of high school, what happened there is pretty meaningless. Don't take it to seriously and try to have a good time while you're there.

You're a freshman and it's the start of the year. Just be friendly and you'll meet people with similar interests, feel more comfortable in your surroundings and be able to relax a little more.

I moved to a new school an hour away in 10 grade. Also got bussed there so I didn't even have a house to go to between school and soccer. It's a little weird at first when you don't have any solid friends but just talk to people and you'll meet people. Over time you'll get more comfortable with each other and you won't have to worry about impressions as much.

Seriously, don't sweat it. You've been in high school for a month, you have plenty of time to meet people.

I was in the same boat during high school. Seriously join a serious club or school sport. The earlier you get in, the better. What are your interests OP? Music, sports, anime?

I think your standards are a little off, I've always rather had a few close friends than several less than close friends

Also, what's wrong withe not having a girlfriend at your age?

Thats highschool for ya, your middle school "friends" will spread apart into other groups the same thing happened to me. I had an abundance of friends in middle school but most of them split into 2 groups and now I literally have 3-5 friends I hangout with because we all ski together or have other interests. I still walk around school awkwardly because my main friends are also good friends with other kids who Im not really friends with so I just leave immediately after school. Its shitty but find others with common interests I made a few friends through talking about cars and shit

I found out not having as many friends is actually better. you're closer knit with a small group and it's far more fun having your clique than being "kind of" friends with 60 people.

I know how you feel man, just went through this recently, and trust me, it gets better. All the friends I had since I was just a little shit, just stopped hanging with me. But, once I started sticking it out, laughing at them when they said get away, sitting at the end of their lunch table alone, they realized what they did. Now, were all friends again and I even made more friends.

Just keep your head up high and hang with some dudes, it will get better.

Don't sweat it dude. Your self worth has nothing to do with how many friends you have. You're gonna meet a lot of people in high school and your friends in middle school are way different than your friends by the end of your senior year. Having less friends is actually better, in my opinion. I'd rather have like 5 people who know me pretty well and like me because of who I am, than have like 20 friends who I only know so much about and they barely know me. Have fun in high school tho. Don't spend it stressing about the small stuff. I did that and I regret it because so many people had an awesome time in high school and I was one of those kids who hated it and complained about it almost every day. Shit is gonna be alright, just have fun in high school while you can

High School is NOTHING like post graduation. Every person you're friends with in middle school don't even know who you are in high school. Once you graduate the only people that wanna talk are people that you work with or assholes. You'll be alright kid, just keep that head up.

Hey OP, don't write yourself off yet. It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on. Just try your best, try everything you can and don't worry what they tell themselves when you're away. It just takes some time man you're in the middle of the ride. Everything will be just fine.

OP i find it is best to have your own smaller group of friends you can trust than to be friends with a bunch of people that will stab you in the back if it has any chance to give them personal gain. Most of the people you went to high school with you won't ever see again, especially if you are just "kind of" friends with them.

Focus on bettering yourself as a person, go to the gym, get a part time job join a sports team and eventually the girls will start to come.

Just be friends with everyone use your old friends as leverage into new groups. High school was awesome made some of my best friends and still see them all the time.

(seriously though, in 2006 when I was getting out of HS, there wasn't a 'cool kid' in school who didn't have these in every colour of the rainbow.. I refused to wear them, and was mocked for it lol)

Hi friend! High school (especially the start of freshman year) is a transitional period. It can be rather tough for everyone. You're in a new environment, people are "growing" up and things change.
My freshman year was pretty tough, until I got a bit more involved with the school. Try and find some people who are into the same stuff! It's okay to have a small but close group of friends. Someone's it's easier to have a few closer rather than lots of distant friends. Give it some time, you'll make it. :)

same thing kinda happened to me freshman year. I had a huge friend group who were all the cool football players in middle school (not trying to sound like a douche, just being honest) and then once we got into highschool it changed into half of us being athletes and half being burn outs kinda. not in a bad way really. So heres all my friends, half are preppy and have fauxhawks, the other half has terrible reputations. I ended up sticking with my friends who had the bad reputations, and some of them have really grown up have real bright futures. The other half of all my middle school friends and i didnt really get along for 3 years but now im a senior and were all starting to hang out again and its fucking awesome. Its just high school buddy, freshman year sucks but itll get better :)

Freshman year is the time you meet new people, make new friends and start to figure out "who you are" kinda shit. My friends from 7th grade to 10th grade completely changed, just give it some time and dont sweat it.

My freshman year was awful. All my friends left me, and my grades were shitty. I also had class with a lot of people who disliked me. I had no friends in my lunch, and I was too embarrassed to eat alone, so I spent lunch in a bathroom stall and ate on the bus ride home. Ski season came and it was a huge relief. I put ALL my time,effort, and attention into skiing. When ski season ended, it was hell. I avoided everone at school so I was alone and silent all day. I was depressed, and I often thought if things would be better if I were to jump off a bridge. How did I get through it? I spoke up. I was too timid to talk to most kids, so I talked to kids who were social outcasts like me. It got me out of the slums, but still, those highschool expiriences ruined my teenage years.

Just over 7 yesrs out of high school. For the first summer partied and did thing with a lot of people from school. The next summer a few parties. I really dont hang out with anyone from school. One kid i go to sjows withbwent to my school but hes 2 years younger than me and we never hung out much in hs. Imo high school is kind of bullshit. Its lame but you gotta get through it. You probably arent going to be firneds with most of these people 2 or 3 years after school so dont read to much into it. High school isnt the place you have to make all your life long friendships. Most friends are just because youre all locked in a building togather everyday. Its like work friendships. You kight grab a beersometimes but if you move and take another job you get over it. Highschool is wierd kids being weird. Everyone is iinsecure so dont read into the drama. Just have fun and again dont take it too seriously. At least for me i dont think of hs as the best days of my life. I had fun andnthen moved on when it ended.

That happened to me in high school too. It might be that way till you graduate. It was for me. Once I got out of high school and into University everything did a complete 180 and now I am way to full of myself and think I am gods gift to earth haha. Just power through, focus on improving yourself and don't care what others think. It makes you come off confident.

This is true, I have a small group of friends I hang with in and out of school but Im sorta friends with the "cool kids" but dont talk to them out of school which is fine. Because Im more awkward around the "cool" people

My high school problems-

I sit in the chalet and do homework and sometimes I really have an urge to go out and make a few laps but I really need to finish a test before the clock runs out or I will get a bad grade. And sometimes their WIFI is slow.

I'm currently a senior and only have 2 classes so high school is kind of great for me. High school was really tough for me socially. My only friends in my freshmen year were 17-18 year old stoners. After they graduated I was kind of on my own at school. I ended up making only college age friends and never any friends my own age.
Anyways OP high school in general sucks. Also just try to focus on being contempt with yourself and try not to care what other people think.

Just be yourself and your future is waiting for all your awesome experiences to come! Also, try to talk to as many girls as you can without coming off as a pushover.

Until they do you wrong, just be nice to literally everyone. The cool kids, the non cool kids, the kids nobody even know... High school is a bunch of crap sometimes but you'll get a ton of respect from most your classmates. I was considered a "cool kid" but I'm far from cool haha I just treat everybody well regardless of what their status is. You'll probably find that having 2 or 3 great friends is better than having 20 "friends". Don't put too much thought into tho at the end of the day everything will play out. Enjoy man high school is what you make it!

And like a few others have said already.. in a few months you can hit the slopes and forget about the rest.
