Nike drops snow sports

So Nike announced today they are getting rid of their freeskiing, and snowboarding lines to focus on SB. Opinions?



Mine is simple, good. Although is was good for the people on their team, Nike is just another company is overtaking a sport, making the most profit from it, and killing smaller companies. That's business though. I hope the people on their teams get picked up really fast. They are all heavy hitters.

I can't lie, after the end of the Aus/NZ program, I saw this happening. So many new athletes that can be picked up by hopefully smaller more niche company's, either way the tides in skiing and snowboarding are changing

Not surprised at all. And you think about did they really even make an impact on our sport not really. They didnt host any comps, have promo events or anthing like that. From the start there focus was skateboarding. Im sure if Nike wanted to they could have made the snowsports team go as big as the SB team but the revenue just isnt there

Has anyone noticed that nike plan to continue there goggle line. This is pretty interesting I think. Possibly keepin a toe in the door for a future return?

i don't consider nike a company that kills smaller companies. they've been on the skateboard scene for a long time, and a lot of people still buy smaller companies in that world over the big ones. but we'll see where they go. nike's either liked or hated in skateboarding.

How much of a difference is it really going to make for skiing though? I never bought one ski related product from them. They were more in it for snowboarding anyways(at least that was my impression). Of course the athletes are gonna get fucked over and that is pretty shitty but most, if not all, of those guys will pick up another sponsor pretty easily. In general I don't think this is much of a bad thing, if anything it's good for other ski/ snowboard companies.

nike has a great team in snow sports, i hope all of them get a new sponsor soon. but honestly im not surpised, skateboarding is a huge business compared to freeskiing/snowboarding.

There keeping it because the googles are part of nike vision which is separate from snowsports
