Talk me off the ledge or push me over. Bmw 650i

Long story short. My current car is paid off, but I don't like it too much. Looking for a new one and stumbled upon a 2007 bmw 650i convertible. Great condition, but has 90k miles.
For only $19k it seems like a good deal (pending a clean carfax).
I didn't want to get a used car, but I love this car and have for some time. Someone talk me off the ledge or convince me this will go another 100k if I take care of it.
Other option is a new mercedes c300...

well I mean $19k is a lot for a used car with nearly 100,000mi. I know it's a BMW, but to put it into perspective I bought my 2005 WRX with 85,000mi on it for $10,000. Almost as fast, as good in the snow etc. You're getting into the territory at that point where you could buy something (a pretty nice something) brand new for not much more and be covered with warranties etc. I guess it depends on how much you love the car.

After working at a BMW dealer while I was a young chap in high school and summers at college, they are very hit and miss. If you take care of it you'll have a better chance of it lasting. Make sure the owner before you was always up to date on maintenance. If not, don't buy it. It'll break down and then cost you an arm and a leg to fix, especially a 6 series 5 liter engine.

If everything is up to date, buy it. I saw a lot of BMW's that had over 200,000 miles so it definitely has the potential. It's also very fun to drive.

ok, story time:

just last month I paid off my $20,000 2003 E55. gorgeous car, i love it.

$460/month over 3 years ain't worth a car you can only drive 6 months out of the year. i wish i could have gone back in time to convince myself NOT to buy such an expensive and luxurious car.

it's an impulse buy, just be aware of that

The fact that its $19k at 100k miles is because it's $80-90k new. I know I can get a new car at that price range and my range is higher (but for $19k I won't trade in my current car and split miles).
However, the major factor for me is that I have loved 6 series bmws for such a long time. That's why I want someone to talk sense into me and tell me I will regret it or it will make me happy.
I have yet to see maintaince records and a carfax and I will be sensible when looking at those. If they come back blemished. I will pass in a heart beat.

Keep in mind that won't be just 19 grand. BMW's tend to cost more than other vehicles in repairs and maintainance.

At 100k I'd pass on this one.

$10k cash, finance the rest. Current trade would get me close to payoff, but with a high mileage car, I will keep my current car incase expensive bmw repairs and split miles.

New cars are one of the worst purchases you can make. There's something to be said about having it paid off and done with. I bought my jeep out of pocket, and that's how I plan on buying its replacement.

What are you driving now? Just for the sake of comparison

Clearly money isn't an issue but, a car like that is extremely expensive to maintain. I've done $2000 brake jobs go into Audis, BMW's, and mercs for example. Its just the way the german car game goes. Price seems within normal range, and 90K is really not that terrible. My dads truck from the same year has 195k on it and runs like a dream but, it's a Toyota. It will need a timing belt/ front engine seals/ water pump soon which is a RAGING bastard of a job on any new BMW and will be no cheap date. Sensors will go out too, new cars are loaded with them. You will be spending lots of money maintaining it, just know that but, another 100k isn't impossible. Convertibles are one of those things that sounds great on paper. Like a boat, its nice to have a friend that has one but, owning one is kind of a bitch. So are electronic shifting, paddle shifters and so is fucking Idrive. It has to run run-flat tires which are expensive and wear very quickly as well. (nowhere to put a spare) Those mileage estimations you find online are overestimated too, you'll rarely drive it to get 18 mpg unless you're on a flat highway with cruise control at 65.

Look on forums for common issues, and things other owners say before you buy it.

I know going in European cars have more expensive repairs and maintance costs.
I couldn't find common problems and General maintance cost timelines for the 6 series. I am not a frequenter of any car forums though.
I'm thinking I should wait for a lower mileage car for a little more or go with my original plan and get a new car.

After looking further, I have found that I can get a non-convertible with half the miles for $5k more. Seems more sensible to me.

My dad has a 2007 5 series x drive. It now has 107,xxx miles on it and has had a lot of problems since he hit 95k mi. It still runs and is his daily, but has been in the shop quite often.

Convertible is so much nicer though

For a heads up in regards to maintenance my dad had a 5 series from around that time period and got two flat tires which cost a grand each to fix because they were run flats worth considering

That said having a car you like to drive makes commutes so much more Enjoyable.

A car that may be worth considering is a 2000 porsche 911would be stretching your budget considerably(can find them for around 25ish) and repairs would be even more expensive, but it is a porsche

The only XC70R ever made is the one-off concept that is now spending it's days in the Volvo museum, Volvo decided it was too good off a car to release, people couldn't handle the perfection.

In the late 90's early 2000's models (the boxier ones) you could factory order an XC70 with R trim and shit. Basically, he's got a V70R with AWD, TCS, and a button that says 'SPORT' next to 'OFF ROAD' on his dash instead of 'ECON'.
