Barefootin_Fiendit's pretty easy to analyze the video and say all of this from the comfort and safety of your home. you're a great armchair quarterback. if you can't understand why someone who is placed in dangerous situations on a daily basis might react like he did under the circumstances, then I don't know what to tell you.

once again, i'm not saying that the cop was right, just that I can understand how it could happen. he's only human for christ's sake. I have not once stated that I don't think he should go to jail or face any disciplinary action, i've only stated that I don't think he should get 20 years for what appears to be an "honest mistake"

yes it was an honest mistake probably but 1) that's why he's being charged with the crime that concerns itself with harm done without malicious intent evidenced and 2) that doesnt change the fact that he fucked up and seriously endangered the guy

I don't think the guy knew he was being pulled over until he saw the cop pull up behind him and get out of the car.

The cop told him to provide is drivers license. He did what he was told to do. No law requires you to keep your drivers license on your person at all times. He was simply getting his wallet where his license was.

don't know where you derived this logic but the "omg all cops are pigs" is much more justifiable because there has been a consistent flow of unlawful shootings of primarily black people by officers within the last few months.

Cop over reacted, thats a given, but I don't blame him or think he should be put in jail or anything like that. For anyone who thinks this is a race issue and says "what if he was white", so many crazy fuckin white dudes try and kill cops I would think no different.

Imagine being a cop and seeing someone turn that quick into their car right after you say something to them. The first time I watched the video I didn't read the title on whatever site it was and thought it was about to be a shoot out when he went into his car.

if you don't see where I'm coming from, just go on youtube and search "officer shot traffic stop" there will be a ton of results

I don't understand how anyone is laying blame on the victim here. There was no threatening language or connotation of any kind, and he entered the car in a reasonable way, following the orders of the cop. That jumpy, trigger-happy cop had his pistol drawn the minute that man's back was turned and started firing befor he was even out of the car fully.

Looking at the bigger picture, are we really ready and willing to give people of this training level full military equipment and unfettered power over crowd control and other situations? You get one guy like the cop in this video in the mix and he acts as the match in a powderkeg eruption that ends in a lot of bloodshed.

Except a bullet can hit another piece of metal and cause a spark which can ignite gasoline.Not saying its probably, but it can happen.

cops shoot to hit center mass and kill. saying that "a cop shooting at a person from 10 feet out COULD HAVE resulted in his death" is not some crazy "could have" game as you accuse. get real, you can't really not understand how shitty a response that is

cop deserves a lot of jail time in my opinion. I mean he has all those tools and all that training to restrain the victim. He immediately assumed that the man was grabbing a gun. If the cop wanted him to remain still and not make a sudden movement then he should have said so, instead he shoots him. lucky the kids alive jesus christ

Why didn't the guy have his wallet on him? He pulled up to a convenience store, got out of his car and started to close the door. At that point where is he going without a wallet? Is it that unreasonable to think maybe he was diving back into the car for a weapon?


Im pretty sure that he only pulled into the convenience store because the cop was pulling him over

i mean, i'm no lawyer or anything, so i can't say much about the charges themselves. i honestly don't even know what exactly he's being charged with. i just think 20 years is a really long fucking time for an honest mistake. too long, imho.

from what i understand, some states have varying degrees of assault with varying degrees of punishment, but i don't know much more about them than that. if that's the case here, then maybe a lesser degree of assault would be more appropriate, but what do i know. i'll leave that shit to the lawyers.

realistically, i'd like to think that either way he won't do 20 years, so kind of a moot point.

An honest mistake or not he still fired a fucking bullet a human without seeing a gun. I mean hes a police officer, thats not the kind of job where "honest mistakes" like that should be tolerated whatsoever. This officer went from asking the standard "Can I see your I.D."? to shooting the man. there was no "Put your hands on your head!". He should get some significant time.

maybe all you need is your debt card, and it currently wasn't in your wallet. Maybe you just forgot that your wallet wasn't in your pocket. There are many scenarios that could have been going on at the time as to why he didn't have his wallet on his person... just accept the fact and move on. Putting blame on buddy because he didn't have his wallet on his person is asinine.

It's true. Part of my job involves using saws and half the time I am smoking a cigarette while gassing up the saw. If my smoke were to fall in the jerry can it would more often than not just extinguish the cigarette, not light the gas on fire.

Also - gas doesn't just explode like on the movies, it just burns. I've personally seen people light a gas tank of a car on fire and watched it burn for almost an hour before the fire truck showed up. Sure, by that time the car was fully on fire, but gas doesn't act as an explosive.

an empty gas tank with more fumes/vapour and oxygen than actual liquid gas might have the chance of rapid expansion when ignited to cause some sort of explosion (or at least act as a flame thrower of sorts), but I wouldn't put any money on it.

When the fuck can improper training or procedure be blamed for incidents like this? If the cop would have just told him to remain calm and stay put, he would have been able to approach the suspect and actually have a conversation with him instead of hopping out of his car, screaming conflicting orders, and shooting an innocent man.

Too many times do these videos show the cops giving unclear orders and immediately jumping to conclusions when the suspect does't comply to one of them. I'm just happy that this cop actually was on trial for this and could possibly serve the time for the crime he committed, just as any civilian would.
