Twinjibber77Yo,
Been very busy recently and haven't been the NS addict I used to but realizing that the best way to move is ASK NS!
I'm an American in the military and i'm getting stationed in Bavaria.
Honestly don't know shit about living in Germany and never even been there. In the last two years hit up Belgium, France and a few other countries and that's about it.
Any help/ recommendations about living whether its shredding, cell phone plans, travel, suggestions on how to make my life awesome while being in the coolest duty station in the world would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help, drinks on me!
If you're an hour east of Nuernberg then your most local resorts will be Geisskopf, Grosser Arber and Spicak in Czech. They are pretty low compared with the Alps, but at Arber snow is pretty reliable. I'm not sure about park facilities... they won't be anything epic. If you're into mountain biking this area has some great parks which are regularly full of US military. Check out

Garmisch will be pretty inconvenient as it's on the wrong side of Munich, it will be easier to hit up resorts like Spitzingsee which is east of Munich or the bigger and higher altitude resorts in the Tirol. From Nuernberg it takes about 3hr30 to get to the Zillertal for instance. For easy travel a car is kind of essential, otherwise you'll be spending all of your time waiting for trains... however I'm sure catching a lift with fellow soldiers won't be a problem.
Make sure you drink the local beer. The beer around Franconia is the best in Germany and the Pilzner from the west of Czech (Bohemia) is pretty damn good too.
If you like the outdoors and doing lots of sports it's a great place to be.
